I use that term, mostly, with fondness. After somebody mentioned Dom DeLuise being in Johnny Dangerously, I found myself wanting to see it again- or, as it turns out, for the first time. I've had some serious mental block where I had it mixed up with some other spoof gangster film from around that era, and it was very early in Michael Keaton's film career, so I must've passed on it when it came out. DAMN it's funny- it's directed by Amy Heckerling, who did Fast Times and went on to do Clueless, but the source of much of the amusement, I suspect, was Pat Proft, who was part of the team behind the Police Squad! works, and this film contained much of the same sight-gag and fourth-wall-breaking kinda humor.

The lasting impression from this film came right on the disk menu, which directs you to "play it, icehole!" That's part of the colorful vocab of Johnny's nemesis Roman Moronie, who cusses about as much as the entire cast of Goodfellas but only with minced oaths like "icehole," "fargin," and "cork-soakers."  These words are being heard often around this house now. Usually in jest.

With just a few somanumbatching exceptions.

I ordered the winner's Star Trek book from an Amazon supplier in Indiana. Pete was kind enough to pass on his first-prize entitlement, so Mel will be getting the goodies. Eventually.  After confirming my order and charging my account (unlike new Amazon purchases, used ones charge as soon as the order is placed, not when they ship), they informed me that "standard shipping" to the UK meant, in this case, delivery between June 29 and July 29.  I was a little nervous when I asked what year that would be and they responded "MMIX."  Since my own experience with used-seller shipments from there has been very good, I assume this is all to be blamed on the Royal Mail (motto: "making the US Post Office look good since 1776").

Next, I succumbed to the siren songs and ordered the DVD of Dr. Horrible, since Netflix still wouldn't confirm if it would be getting it next week. As soon as the order had been placed, I checked my queue and found it had magically moved up into the #2 position for delivery on June 2.

When is Amazon getting it to me? June 2.

Sneaky bastages.

Are they sending it to the new address? I'm moving at the end of June. If not, I'll just have it picked up by one of my flatmates here and sent on to me.

I'm jealous you get Dr Horrible-- it's still not out here! *pout*

I used the same address as I did for whatever the last thing was I amazonned you direct- your birthday pressie, I think- and I am really hoping that they'll meet the late-June scenario.

By "one of your flatmates," I assume you don't mean Icehole. I'd expect it to be insured in that case.

nope-- 'Icehole' was removed by his parents earlier in the week. That didn't stop one of his little friends from trying to break down the main door 2 days ago, but... :P

Johnny Dangerously is AWESOME!

So glad you are getting Dr. Horrible on DVD. I'll be ordering it next month, along with the Encyclopedia of WWE Wrestling. June is my intellectual month. :P

Maureen Stapleton made that movie for me.

But I thought Doctor Horrible was free? I remember when it came out there was this big hoopla about him releasing it for free. We all watched it (my husband watched it repeatedly and memorized it). It seemed like it was legit and not a stolen copy from somewhere.

The episodes were, and are, free-for those who can download them. But they apparently also decided to collect them all on a DVD for the more tech-challenged, and Joss and friends laid down a commentary track on the disk, also in verse, as an extra layer of parody of the format.
