I think it was the weekend of the major holiday before the 4th of July.

The a.m. hours today were handed over to the banking establishment- cashing a client's check at a bank which had robbed Eleanor blind about three weeks ago, then depositing said cash into my business account, and finally heading over to Bank The Third to deposit some summer college spending money for Emily, into an otherwise useless checking account BT3 made me open in order to have no service charges on my health savings account.

In between all these drivearounds (and one drive-thru), the local sports station made very clear that a Major Event would be occurring at our still-gorgeous downtown baseball diamond around 1 this afternoon:

A quick trip to Tops got me a general admission ducat, and an even quicker trip on the 33 got me a free space a block from the ballpark, with this quickly falling into my hands:

These events all happened by 12:30. I headed down to score some pregame pics of the guest of honor, a major contributor to the last time my baseball team won a World Series, six years before my 17-year-old kid was born. Here's Darryl with Buster Bison after throwing out the second ceremonial pitch (some little kid relative of the sponsor of the bobbleheads got the honor of throwing out the first one):

And, moments later, here's my 1980s hero doing his time with a massive line of fans who wanted their bobbleheads autographed:

He seemed like a good sport about all the attention from an admiring public which was largely Not Born or Not Caring when he was performing his most major heroics the year before we got married.  I, on the other hand, was definitely born, and was and am still happily married, for almost all the years since we kicked Boston butt 23 Octobers ago.

Which is where the Mets are playing, and losing at the moment WON! tonight. The past somehow cancels out the insufficiencies of the present.

As if I haven't added enough excitement to your Flists in recent past, (1) I think that [livejournal.com profile] why_a_duck won yesterday's Stump the Band contest, but I may send Mel a copy anyway even though her question wasn't TOS-kosher; and (2) the kid, fresh from her first driving lesson, has also informed me of her establishment of an LJ account, under the name [livejournal.com profile] ivylaurelrose. That alone oughtta be reason for you to consider friending it, as so many of you have her mom in recent weeks.

I remember Darryl playing for the Kingsport Mets in 1980. I was about 12 then, but I remember him being a great player. He didn't stay in Kingsport for very long.

When we were 12? Can you say jail bait? Of course given Darryl's later legal issues....

They renamed the downtown ballpark "Coca Cola Field," its fourth name in 20-odd years. Given Darryl's history, I was pleased to see that there were no abbreviations of it to "Coke" on any of the walls, scoreboards or (and this is an official ballpark architecture term) vomitoriums.

Yeah yeah, lemme work on details. Meanwhile, what was the answer? All I could think of between DDM and TEI was Spock running around relieving people of command on accounts of assorted nutsery.

Richard Compton had a small role in each TOS ep-- Washburn in Doomsday Machine and then an unnamed one in Enterprise Incident-- and directed TNG's Haven.
