Payback, bitches!
May. 22nd, 2009 07:51 amI'll be the first to admit it: I'm old. I remember when black actually was the "new black." I have socks that are older than some of you. Usually, it results in something of a clueless fog when I land on Planet Pop Culture. I don't do reality shows; I lost track of Heroes years ago, then got lost after Lost's long hiatus and never came back. I tried Dr. Who and kinda faded on that when I discovered that, for me at least, 10 < 9.
So I hope you'll excuse my glee (personal happiness, not this latest thing all'yall are going on about) as I watch my Flist suddenly discovering a fandom that, for once, I know better than they do. By a lot.
Every other entry is somebody discovering the Joy ofSex Tribbles ("They're practically BORN pregnant!"). Harry Mudd's planet of androids. Spock melding with a bigass pile of spackle. I get all this. I've seen all these. More times than you can possibly imagine.
No, I never had Spock ears, or had Shatner yell at me to "get a life!", but please forgive me if I'm a little loud and proud about finally having my horse come in.

Do I forget a lot of the details? Of course I do. Old, remember? But I have hep. Still on the shelf, after all these years, is the original printing of the bible of all things TOS:

You can get later editions of it all over, but only the original has that awesome spinny toy on the cover to take you straightaway to the episode you want details on. All TOS and TAS eps get a synposis, cast list and glossary of terms defined in the second section of the book. Mine is starting to lose it- bindings break after 30 years (more so after almost 50;), and I'm fixing to get me a new one.
But why not two? It's been awhile since I've done a contest, so let's play! The first commenter on this entry to stump me on a TOS question gets one of the two copies of the book I'm planning to order.
Rules log, stardate 90522.8:
(1) Subject to availability. I have the link above which has one copy, and one other from eBay at a reasonable price. If I can't score either, I'm not dropping 100 bucks for an autographed copy, and you can't have mine.
(2) All questions must withstand the calling of shenanigans. "What's the third word Lt. Kyle says before engaging the transporter in Who Mourns for Adonais?" is a shenanigans question. No Starfleet serial numbers or other crap minutiae. Spelling doesn't count. I promise not to look anything up if you promise to be fair.
(3) Duh, I gotta know where to send it. US, Canada, UK and Oz I can handle. Somalia, not so sure.
(4) First to stump me gets it, but I'm going to let it play for a day or so, just toget some gratuitous comments keep everybody entertained.
There, that wasn't TOO bad for a lawyer, was it?
Let the gamesters of Triskalion begin.

Date: 2009-05-22 12:51 pm (UTC)You also misspelled Adonis (in a very Judeo-Christian way).
Okay, what do TOS' Doomsday Machine, Enterprise Incident, and TNG's Haven all have in common?

Date: 2009-05-22 03:16 pm (UTC)And I misspelled "Triskelion," too.

Date: 2009-05-22 09:55 pm (UTC)O Captains, My Captains
Date: 2009-05-26 06:16 pm (UTC)But..."Mr. Spock, you have the conn" doesn't count. I go out to lunch on occasion - that doesn't make my assistant the acting director.
Wresting control of the ship from Kirk doesn't count, because you know Kirk will regain control of the ship, and the ensign doing the wresting will suffer some agonizing death or defeat.
Alternate universes shouldn't count, because if they did, the answer could never be calculated.
I found it plenty of fun to play the "does this one count" game, but honestly, there's no absolute answer to this question at all. The science has NOT been settled.
