About this time last night, Emily came in to this office and said to me, "You'd better come out and see this."

Never good words to be heard.

Behind the 20-gallon fish tank was a two-gallon puddle. One of the cats somehow got a hankering, not for the fish, but for one of the charcoal filters in the gizmo behind it. She knocked off the filter cover, hauled out one of the charcoal-filled casings -

yeah, those guys top right- and the spongelike goop absorber between it and the water flow, and proceeded to march them around like the litter of kittehs she never had.

She's lived with us for going on five years, and while she occasionally worships Momo and Othello (the current inhabitants of the tank itself), she had never shown the least bit of interest in their left-behind leavings in the filters.

Must be some kind of spring fever. Both she and Tazzer spent a few minutes out on the back porch next to the greenhouse yesterday afternoon after Eleanor got home, unusual for them since they've been the only two of our five over-the-years cats never to get loose and roam for more than mere moments. Taz spent most of the time eating dead shoots and dirt in not-quite-repotted pots; Michelle darted and dodged a bit,  but mostly meowed until it was time to go back in where it's safe and her humans take care of everything.

We have good and bad days- many of you, touch-and-go ones today from the sound of it, at least two of you an utterly fabulous one (♥♥s to Sara and Jeff). I suspect, though, that animals just have interesting-smell days and not-so-interesting-smell days. It's nice to know at least one of ours got to think outside the catbox in that department last night;)
