It was a happy moment, moments ago, reading that the awesomesauciest novelist of my almost acquaintance, Joss, posted her 1000th blog entry today. She did so with plenty of nostalgia, and thankfulness, and frank amazement at how far she, and her now-not-so-small circle of friends, had come since it was just a Gee-Ma-Looky-I'm-On-Teh-Interwebs kinda thing.
It would have been a kar full of karma to have found some deeply significant number on my own trail today, but the count, not counting this entry, is a not-so-even 2,405. I'm late for a minor party and several weeks (at least) early for a major one. Still, I'm glad for the opportunity to thank all of you again, as I do on many pre-fab events like multi-millennial posts and anniversaries, but as I really don't do nearly enough for all the joy, and wisdom, and laughs that enter my life because you hit "post" after once, most of you, hit an "add friend" button. This new dreamwidth doohickey seems to want to get away from the implications of that- referring to the Flist as a "reading page" and to "friending" as "subscribing," as if I'm a 12-year-old at your door with the Sunday paper yelling, "Collect!" So many of you, and so much of you, became and remain far more real than that, and many of you now grace Eleanor's thoughts and laughs, as well.
Imagine how mushy I'll be 94 entries from now.

Today was also an almost anniversary of note, which I mentioned on the first of the memorable number dates four years ago, remembering 20 years before that to the day. I became a practicing member of the local bankruptcy bar on May 6, 1985. Nowadays, you just submit paperwork and fees to get admitted in our local federal courts, but in those more solemn and collegial days, your admission was a relative big deal, as an experienced practitioner introduced you to the Judge and the other regulars who would be, and who mostly still are, my closest connections in practice all these years later. My admission was the only one on that day, and it was called first on the calendar- a good thing, since the second item on the calendar was a motion I was expected to present. Had they been called out of order, my admission might have been to the federal holding cell for unauthorized practice.
I've since added formal federal admissions in five other courts on a permanent basis and have appeared on a one-off basis on a few others over the years, but none brings back the date and the event the way this one did. Even my bigger-deal admission to the state bar here wasn't one I remember as fondly, since that was a cattle car of hundreds of us (and was complicated a bit by their misspelling of my name on my formal "sign-in" papers). The 6th will be a Thursday next year- not a usual day for any of the judges here to be holding court, but I'm sure I'll still remember, and comment, and if I get really uppity about it, I'll make it some significantly numbered entry here, as well.
