I get mental blocks about things. Ask Eleanor. She can build a castle the size of Mar-a-Lago out of the mental blocks I leave laying about, especially in the kitchen.
One of the most annoying of them- for me, at least- concerns my car. I've had it for just over three years now, and we picked the same make and model as the car I'd been driving for most of the previous five years. In the dashboard area, it's very close to its predecessor, as well. However, it came with one feature the other one didn't have, and which I never ever got used to, despite running into it almost daily: autolock doors. Soon as that sucker went a foot in either direction at anything over about 2 mph, the doors would lock, and any not already manually opened by a human being on exit would remain that way.
It took all of these years- of bitching about it to myself, trying to remember to flick the "unlock" switch in transit so I wouldn't have to fumble with the keyless entry thingie with an armload of papers/gymclothes/computer- but it finally occurred to me to RTFM and see if this "feature" could be unfeatured.
It could. Turn ignition to "on," click unlock three times, turn it to off and repeat, back to on and one more toggling, and the horn chirps.
Success!
Duly impressed with my intellect and flush with my new-found good fortune, I turn the key to "start" to head to the office,....
and it won't. Fucking. START.
Several tries later, it roared to life and it's been fine since, including the blissful sound of silence when the car backs up, but sheesh.

All the cool kids are doin' it, apparently, so I've snagged the captainsblog name at Dreamwidth. Not sure what I'm going to do with it now, but feel free to friend it, tag it, whatever one does. Thanks to
shadowhuntress for the invite, and if I ever get any to give, I'll be sure to post here and there:)
