Since Google was kind enough to point out that today's the 50th anniversary of the formation of NASA, I thought I'd honor the occasion by paying a visit to the grimmest subdivision in all of Amherst:

I have here a list of 57 known Cosmonauts who flew in the same orbit as these men!

Actually, there is a reason why Buffalo honors Joe McCarthy as well as the dear departed here in the Dead Astronaut subdivision, but it has nothing to do with communists, cosmonauts, or anything the slightest bit aeronautical or spacy.

Anyone know? Anyone? Even the friend who lived like a block away from these?

Also, not that it has anything to do with the answer to that, but there was, once, a Virgil Grissom Drive in that subdivision as well, but the town deleted it after nobody ever bothered developing a single house on it.

Gee, ya think?

"It's perfect, honey. It's a center-entrance Colonial in an excellent school district, with nice neighbors and, look!, our street is named for a charbroiled astronaut!"

He was a baseball team's manager, wasn't he? The Yankees, maybe? (and I lived right on Joe McCarthy Dr, which amuses many people).

Very good. And held in such high esteem here because he was a native Buffalonian.

Not a lot of people know that connection (not that many more remember Senator Joe- he was even before my time;/old). But when I first moved here, not knowing that, and saw there was a Joe McCarthy Baseball League, I couldn't get past the image of Nixon and Roy Cohn arguing with the umpire over whether a ball was fair or foul.
