Not for the reasons I expected, either.  At one point, I had seven court appearances scheduled for this week, every morning except Tuesday. The two on Wednesday were an hour apart in the same downtown. The two on Thursday, an hour apart in downtowns 300 miles away from each other; and the two today, a half-hour apart in downtowns 150 miles away from each other.

Every single one of them got postponed or resolved in advance of my having to put on the monkey suit. Win.

Two cases settled this week which I didn't expect to, either ever or this soon. More win.

Busy, though. All that adjourning takes time all by itself, plus being away the better part of four days last week finally caught up with me. And the week ended somewhat sadly, with a new referral of a client who, for medical reasons, has completely lost the ability to perform a job for which the client is expertly qualified, trained and respected- and even teaches part-time. It just gives one pause how fragile this life can be.

Eleanor's been off all week. Not that we've gone anywhere, but just getting the time off has been a blessing, being away from the morons at the store. There've been the occasional moments of conflict with le child, but that's to be expected when she's home all the time for the summer.

The Sabres managed to sign two of their best players this week. Be still my beating puck.

The friend from Far Far Away, a year older than me, who became a grandmother last Thursday? Didn't know her daughter was pregnant with him until three days after he was born. But everyone is welcoming the little guy with love and happiness. His great-grandfather (who I always knew as a great father to his daughter and sons, so the name fits) was beyond words in his happiness at living enough of life to have hit that milestone. I'm thrilled for him, and all of them, as well.

And my even older onetime client who passed away last week? Here's a link ( posted here before, in somewhat different form) to an article about a home on Buffalo's west side. He's the "elderly West Side resident" referred to (even though he lived out of state at the time), and the home is one I did the legal work for him to donate to the featured non-profit- after he couldn't care for it anymore, nobody wanted to buy it, and Housing Court was pelting him with citations over it. It's now become a beacon of hope in a neighborhood desperately in need of one. I shared the article with all of his kids, and they were happy and shared the warm fuzziness of a life well lived, even in its final years.

Right. Did I say Eleanor was on vacation? She just got home from an off-hours appointment at the store. Dinner awaits.

Glad you didn't have to put on the monkey suit!

Hope you enjoyed your time with the fam.

I can only imagine how wonderful it feels to help your onetime client use his home in this manner. PUSH sounds like a wonderful organization.
