I've written here before about my nearly lifelong love of Jeopardy!

What I haven't mentioned is my nearly lifelong frustration about never having a chance to try out for the actual show.

I've done it for Millionaire!, and even passed the test at least a couple of times, once (or more) online, and once at a cattle-call at one of the local malls. I even have a Meredith Vieira commemorative coin from the latter effort, but sadly, my Face For Radio kept them from calling me back.

The J! people, though, have never been in synch with me when I had enough interest in current goings-on on the show; when Jennings and [livejournal.com profile] squonk_npl were enjoying their runs, they either weren't looking for contestants or were only seeking Teen Tournament players.

Tonight, though.

We ate early and watched a thoroughly enjoyable film (an original TNT film, of all things) called Door to Door, the true story of a disabled salesperson who rose above his diabilities and the prejudices of others to become both successful and loved for what he did. When it ended shortly before 8, I cued the DVR to ABC in case tonight brought the return of Lost. It doesn't (clip shows rule the night), but it was just in time to catch a Jeopardy! ad for a contestant search over the three nights ending tomorrow.

Turns out they're geared to time zones, and I missed my prime opportunity. Two nights ago was intended for Easterners, tonight (as in a few minutes before I registered) for Midwesterners, and tomorrow night for Pacific and Pointswesters, beginning at 8 p.m. Pacific, or Waypastmybedtime EST.

The fine print, though, allows interlopers from the East in these later opportunities.

So in about 25 hours and change from now, I'm gonna face 50 questions that might take me, in the near future, to either Cleveland or Boston for yet another 50-question test and, even more disturbing, for a photographing of my actual ugly face.  I know I have to try, because otherwise I'll always wonder if this head full of useless knowledge has gone unappreciated.

Wish me luck. Preferably in the form of a question.

Go for it! I did it earlier tonight. I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow morning with a random phrase in my head and realize it was an answer to a question I missed.

Took it last night. It's almost certain I didn't pass. It was the current stuff that got me--I've been a bit distracted the past 7 months!

Go for it!
