Scared Straight
Jul. 24th, 2007 06:43 amI think I've calmed down from my temporary retail insanity of the previous day. Many constructive comments helped, but when you need to think straight, sometimes what you really need is a good fright.
Here's what I did:
- Listened to Carly Simon's all-time biggest hit being sung by Felix and Oscar from the Odd Couple;
- Found the link to, and read some of the opening words of, the Walter Koenig piece which remains Google page-ranked as the "Worst Science Fiction Novel Ever";
- Did not watch the debate, but did spend time contemplating the horror of a four-year slice of our future history being entrusted to the same people who gave us the Numa Numa video;
- Read actual reviews and news stories, at least one of which suggests that a certain prized Apple product should be renamed the zPhone for its unadvertised Zombie-like qualities.
That oughtta do me for one day, at least.

Date: 2007-07-24 04:23 pm (UTC)- a phone, duh;
- a web broswer big enough for me to see and navigate without having to learn how to use a stylus, so I can get my email and do some basic web thingies while traveling;
- an onboard camera, if the extra cost of the hardware and data plan wouldn't wind up being more than just the cost of getting a basic digital camera.
That's really all I need. I don't have an iPod or any desire to use it for that. And I'd like it to be something Cingular offers, so I don't have to muck about with service changes; but since they're the ones hawking the Next Big Thing right now, I don't know if I'm gonna get a straight answer from them about anything else.
Would a Blackberry or something of that ilk work on their system?
