Who's Ray This Time?
Nov. 5th, 2006 08:04 amNow that I have this extra hole in my head, all kinds of things are pouring out. I'm not even gonna talk about this morning's Prisoner-influenced weird dream, but will instead work some of the odd lines from other past television viewings into an actual guess-the-show quiz.
The mind's a funny thing. I suck at lyric quizzes, since without the tune I can't place words, but I'm wicked-pissah good at identifying songs from mere snippets of notes from them. Similarly, small pieces of dialog hang in my head, often becoming catch phrases around our home and in some of these cases, being the first thing, if not the only thing, I remember about the show.
Some disclaimers and warnings:
1. I am old (and about to get older), so these are also old. Probably older than you. A few, older than even me. The trend below, from 1 to 20, is older to newer, but as with everything there are exceptions. Overair and cable shows are fair game.
B-- These are exact quotes only in my own head. That will make them less googlable (not that you should be doing that anyway), but if you remember something similar, it's probably the right one.
III. These are also, with few exceptions, obscure. They stuck with me on first viewing (or fifth, or four hundred eightieth) and are probably not among the catch phrases of a show the way "Norm!" was for Cheers or "[insert whatever idiocy they said on Seinfeld was cause I never watched it]" was for Seinfeld. Part of the fun of this, for me, is to see if there are any kindred souls out there who might also remember them.
(d) All I need is the name of the series. More detail will save me work later in posting the answers, but it isn't needed to get the clue off the board and your
lj_username posted for all to ooh and ahh at.
v) That sign of respect and admiration is the only prize. Check back for winners, as I'll crossout and identify periodically. If there are tough nuts in need of unsticking, there'll probably be a phone post where I'll add actual voice inflection to the clues.
1. It'll never work!....but it's certainly worth a try.
2. Aristophanes?,....
3.Shut that door.
thanatos_kalos, who knew her Star Trek tribble references.
4."Something suddenly came up."
baseballchica03 recognized the one I was totally the most ashamed to remember- from a Brady Bunch episode.
5.It was one of those all-night wicker places.
chapter5, or rather her muse, recognized the line from the pilot episode of the best six-episode show ever made: Police Squad! (In color!)
6. Fish Police! Stop or I'll cast!
7. It was both! Slander AND libel! Slibel!
8. I was wronnnnnnnnnnnnnnn....wrooooooooo........ wrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
9. And some chrymanthesums.
10. Sis boom baa.
11. "They're booking him for indecent exposure." "Insufficient evidence."
12.Ain't that a kick in the pants? Butt. Whatever. See headnote B,
thanatos_kalos; of course it's Leap.
13.I can explain that, sir. I'm an idiot.
thanatos_kalos was first on the Maglev to get the seaQuest reference.
14.Don't you understand, man? You've struck cole slaw!
bowlingpenguin knows her Ferret Faces; this is the MASH episode where Frank has a bunch of grunts digging up a "bomb" which turned out to be, not the exploding kind, but the kimchee kind.
15.All right, you two. Drop your pants, I'll get a ruler and we'll settle this. Score again for the
chapter5 crew, who recognized one of my favoritest Murphy Brown lines of all time.
16.Moose burger or caribou dog?
baseballchica03, who should really know better than to try answering twice, but who got it with the first one- Ed passing out hots to Joel at the Cicely community picnic on Northern Exposure.
17.Fine. Is the man you're having sex with coming to dinner? One Answer More from Five Chapter Family, who recognized Six Feet Under.
18. "What do you charge to haunt a house?" "How many rooms?"
19. Yes, she did. As a matter of fact, she found them quite comfortable.
20. Hmmph. Action, he wants. Action, he shall GET.
