Now that I have this extra hole in my head, all kinds of things are pouring out. I'm not even gonna talk about this morning's Prisoner-influenced weird dream, but will instead work some of the odd lines from other past television viewings into an actual guess-the-show quiz.

The mind's a funny thing. I suck at lyric quizzes, since without the tune I can't place words, but I'm wicked-pissah good at identifying songs from mere snippets of notes from them.  Similarly, small pieces of dialog hang in my head, often becoming catch phrases around our home and in some of these cases, being the first thing, if not the only thing, I remember about the show.

Some disclaimers and warnings:

1. I am old (and about to get older), so these are also old. Probably older than you. A few, older than even me.  The trend below, from 1 to 20, is older to newer, but as with everything there are exceptions.  Overair and cable shows are fair game.

B-- These are exact quotes only in my own head. That will make them less googlable (not that you should be doing that anyway), but if you remember something similar, it's probably the right one.

III. These are also, with few exceptions, obscure. They stuck with me on first viewing (or fifth, or four hundred eightieth) and are probably not among the catch phrases of a show the way "Norm!" was for Cheers or "[insert whatever idiocy they said on Seinfeld was cause I never watched it]" was for Seinfeld.  Part of the fun of this, for me, is to see if there are any kindred souls out there who might also remember them.

(d) All I need is the name of the series. More detail will save me work later in posting the answers, but it isn't needed to get the clue off the board and your [livejournal.com profile] lj_username posted for all to ooh and ahh at.

v) That sign of respect and admiration is the only prize. Check back for winners, as I'll crossout and identify periodically. If there are tough nuts in need of unsticking, there'll probably be a phone post where I'll add actual voice inflection to the clues.

1. It'll never work!....but it's certainly worth a try.

2. Aristophanes?,....

3. Shut that door. [livejournal.com profile] thanatos_kalos, who knew her Star Trek tribble references.

4. "Something suddenly came up." [livejournal.com profile] baseballchica03 recognized the one I was totally the most ashamed to remember- from a Brady Bunch episode.

5. It was one of those all-night wicker places. [livejournal.com profile] chapter5, or rather her muse, recognized the line from the pilot episode of the best six-episode show ever made: Police Squad! (In color!)

6. Fish Police! Stop or I'll cast!

7. It was both! Slander AND libel! Slibel!

8. I was wronnnnnnnnnnnnnnn....wrooooooooo........ wrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

9. And some chrymanthesums.

10. Sis boom baa.

11. "They're booking him for indecent exposure." "Insufficient evidence."

12. Ain't that a kick in the pants? Butt. Whatever. See headnote B, [livejournal.com profile] thanatos_kalos; of course it's Leap.

13. I can explain that, sir. I'm an idiot. [livejournal.com profile] thanatos_kalos was first on the Maglev to get the seaQuest reference.

14. Don't you understand, man? You've struck cole slaw! [livejournal.com profile] bowlingpenguin knows her Ferret Faces; this is the MASH episode where Frank has a bunch of grunts digging up a "bomb" which turned out to be, not the exploding kind, but the kimchee kind.

15. All right, you two. Drop your pants, I'll get a ruler and we'll settle this. Score again for the [livejournal.com profile] chapter5 crew, who recognized one of my favoritest Murphy Brown lines of all time.

16. Moose burger or caribou dog? [livejournal.com profile] baseballchica03, who should really know better than to try answering twice, but who got it with the first one- Ed passing out hots to Joel at the Cicely community picnic on Northern Exposure.

17. Fine. Is the man you're having sex with coming to dinner? One Answer More from Five Chapter Family, who recognized Six Feet Under.

18. "What do you charge to haunt a house?" "How many rooms?"

19. Yes, she did. As a matter of fact, she found them quite comfortable.

20. Hmmph. Action, he wants. Action, he shall GET.

Man, these all sound really, really familiar but I can't quiiiiite place them all.

1. I know this one. I know I know this one, and it sounds like Harrison Ford in my head, but I can't place it.

4. The Brady Bunch OH MY NOSE!

13. This one sounds like Matthew Broderick in my head so I'm going to guess Ferris Bueller, but I'm pretty sure I'm wrong.

15. I know I know this one because I was just watching it a week or so ago. But I can't remember what it was. Ggrrrrrrr.

16. Northern Exposure, I think. Either that or Due South, but I'm pretty sure it's the former. Man, I miss Due South. I wonder if there's a DVD of the series or something.

Two-ly noted. And it's just tv shows. Did they ever try to make one out of Ferris? (On some astroturf-filled political blogsite I saw the other day, someone posted under the name "Abe Froman." I had to give that props on sheer chutzpah alone.

Good try, but no. Those contraptions the Professor built out of coconuts always worked; makes you wonder why he couldn't fix the hole in the boat.

I want to hear about the Prisoner-influenced dream. I love The Prisoner.

Chris Nolan (dir. Memento) is reportedly directing a silver screen adaptation to be released in 2009.

Just me riding a bicycle around an oddly-designed village with odd signs. A modern-day bicycle, though, and I got stopped by a traffic cop (or "warden," I spose the Brits would say) who wrote me up for umpteen equipment violations on my bike and who I then sped away from.

A movie would be awesome; there's been talk of it for years, I know. And regarding Nolan? Do see The Prestige if you can; it is of similar head-messing ilk.

(LOVED the picture of Stella, btw.)

Ben Krieg to Katie Hitchcock, seaQuest? I don't remember the exact ep...Brothers and Sisters, maybe?

Any more? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

(I figured the Aristophanes one would drive you mad, but I don't think the show's been on in reruns much.)

:P Actually, I'm not a big fan of Aristophanes. The Lysistrata wasn't bad, but the Clouds made me angry.

I cannot take credit for these answers. These are from my older brother, whose tastes are remarkably similar to yours, Ray.

#5 is probably Police Squad (which I think is coming out on DVD this week, in a 1-disc special edition. Granted, there were only six episodes, so that's not as bad as it sounds. Besides, there aren't any murderers in the cast).

#6 might actually be Fish Police (and I thought I was the only one who remembered that atrocity).

I remember that line from #8 (for some reason I keep associating it with Steve Martin), but I can't remember the show. Dammit...

15 is Murphy Brown (though it would work just as well with Candice's current show).

17 is Six Feet Under.

You got three outright. #6, you're sort-of right about, as it was a reference TO a show by that name, but it was show-within-a-show, and not the IMDBable one. #8 is a few years too early for Steve Martin.

14....M*A*S*H...when Ferret Face unearths a kim chee pot thinking it's a bomb. Only one I can recognize. But then, I'm sooooo much older than you. ;)

Tsk. There are at least two on there that might even be older than you. Assuming they had film back then ::runs::

If 12 were: "Ain't that a kick in the butt?" it'd be Al from Quantum Leap...

I'm gonna try #18, but I have two guesses. Its either Dead Like Me or Casper, the Friendly Ghost: The Series. I think Disney did that, or whichever company put the movie out.

I wanted a Dead Like Me in there, but no single line jumped out. (Ooh, thanks for reminding me to post about SciFi going back to the pilot tomorrow night:)

No, 18 is one of the two oldest ones in the whole thing. It may have even been from a movie originally, but I saw it as part of the performers' tv show.
