One door opened, a bit further down the road than we wanted, while another tray temporarily closed.

Today, these were the Interruptions of Our Lives....

(No, I never watched. But Mom did. It was one of her "My Storeeeezzzz" that were Mother's Little Helpers back in the day.)

I kept today mostly free to take care of two chores. One was the expected arrival of a new printer for my office.  Despite finally conquering the scan problem yesterday, I'm still less than thrilled with the Xerox I bought a bit over a year ago when an older, larger one was deemed End-of-Lifed by Rochester's Haloid-tosis gods.  I called the company that used to service the older one and they said they couldn't handle the one I bought but they'd lease me something with a bit more capacity for a fixed monthly cost that would include all servicing and all supplies except paper.   That was well over a month ago and the guy never got back.

Meanwhile, another guy cold-called me a week or so later. They only sell, do not have service contracts but provide free labor and at-cost parts for the HP machines they have on offer. These guys got back while Team Xerox was not responding, and they brought the actual unit to my office today.  I hauled the Xisting 3345 off to the side and let them plug the new one in. It looked to be what I needed, until I asked where the wifi indicator was.

Um, this one doesn't have that.

Really? You can't seemingly buy a toaster these days without it being on the Internet of Things trying to order pizzas over the wifi and sexting with the smart TV.  Dude wound up hauling it right back to his van with a promise to try again with something wi-fi-ier.  Meanwhile, I let Brand X know they might have scored another sales shot at me, despite my general annoyance with the manufacturer.  He got right back but told me he was away for the weekend- the second time I've been blown off by an out-of-town trip by the guy I'm trying to get to sell or lease me a piece of equipment. It makes me wonder how the service would be.

It also makes be understand that this meme, coincidentally seen today, is TRUTH:

We did better with our other task.

Our refinance closing seemed to be slowing to the proverbial crawl, other than the bank sending a warning letter that our rate expires on May 6th.  Since we're fast running out of April here, we both put in calls over the last few days and I got a coworker who's writing the title insurance to bug the bank attorneys on the closing. That seems to have worked, because Eleanor got a message this morning from our loan officer: we were cleared to close. But not cleared to SCHEDULE to close.

Welcome to Schrödinger's refi;)

Fortunately, that agitas didn't last long, for right after Eleanor got to work, she got a call that the attorneys were ready to schedule.  But not next week. Rather, for Monday the 3rd. The way mortgage closings work, you pay interest-only from your closing date to the end of that month, and then do not begin your regular payments until the first of the month after that (in this case, July). So even though we will pay more at closing  toward the loan (and might even have to fork over $100 or so to get all the costs covered), we actually "save" a month's payment by it going into May.

I picked the latest time she had, since Eleanor, when she works, usually goes until around 3:30. I didn't get her schedule for that week until after 3 today, when magically, they let her out half an hour early. I can pick her up from work and drive straight to close.

May the Third be with us:)
