Many Happy Returns

In the end, it wasn't the camera. Or the trap. Or the yummy food. Or rigging the back garage door so we could pull it shut behind him if he got in there for said yummy food.
Above all, it was the dog.
While I was on the road all of yesterday, not getting in until 7, Eleanor was a busy do-bee. Setting up the camera and the mobile connection to her phone. Adjusting the lighting out there so the motion detector and camera would actually work. Wiring the pullcord between garage and dining room back doors. All was ready for Mr. DeBronzini to make his close-up. We settled in for a couple more episodes of The Outlaws, Eleanor checking the phone occasionally and Doubting Camera(y) going to the edge of the kitchen to check the food on the hood of her car. We let the dog out, and she wouldn't come in. I saw she was sniffing around the back of the house, and then I saw the little black butt of the sniffee. He wouldn't come toward me, but this time he didn't scoot away, either. We decided to let the camera do its work, Eleanor headed to bed and I started to set up a vigil in the living room.
Then Eleanor heard him mewing right outside her window. I completely stayed out of the rescue at this point, and it took her a good 15-20 minutes to coax him in with treats and toys and a gentle soft voice, but she got him. A bit thinner, and his collar was gone, but otherwise not a scratch on him and he wasn't even dirty despite two weeks out in cold and mud.
Today, mostly, he's been sleeping it off-

- in between feeding his face and letting the other furbabies sniff his various ends. Oh, the stories he could tell!
I had a morning-long commitment Up The Transit for a client/friend, stopped on the way back to get him a new collar and tag, we've taken down the signs, retrieved the trap and are sending out our thank-yous and never-minds to the SPCA and others who tried to help, and we're getting ready to finish watching the final Outlaws tonight. Meanwhile, our old pal Jack Eichel's new team, the Knights, got eliminated from advancing to the NHL playoffs last night, so the joy here is strong. It's also that way in San Jose, where his new team's arch rivals the Sharks posted a Jumbotron message in honor of A Knight's Fail (check the first letter of each word):

I think it even works if you speak Canadian;)
