Just about two hours to Some Sportsball Thing. As Hawkeye once said, "the instrument does not exist that can measure my indifference." I tend to notice the oddities. Like those who are referring to the event, knowing the No Fun League's litigiousness, as the Superb Owl:

For this, I'll set the over under at three;) And if that image looks familiar, it's because that advert was done by an animator named Fred Wolf, who we mainly remember for collaborating with Harry Nilsson on a bizarre but beloved full-length cartoon from around the same year called The Point. Maybe we'll watch the DVD of it tonight, to see if there are special features labeled as "The Extra Point."

I also noticed that the day's roster was almost decimated by, of all things, a queue for haircuts last weekend:

The Kansas City Chiefs really dodged one.

They placed two players on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list this week after they reportedly got haircuts from a barber infected with the coronavirus.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, backup center Daniel Kilgore was in the midst of getting his haircut Sunday when a rapid test taken by the barber came back positive. The Chiefs isolated the barber, who was slated to cut the hair of several more players.

Another report indicated that the player wanted the barber to finish the trim before getting tested, while this article quotes yet another source saying that "quarterback Patrick Mahomes was one of those in line to get a haircut from the infected barber — along with more than 20 other players and Chiefs staffers. Kilgore was the first in line, and the Chiefs isolated him before exposures that could have led to a disastrous Super Bowl week in Kansas City."

And as if things there weren't bad enough, one of the KC assistant coaches was involved in a nasty car accident that has still left a kid in critical condition. It's obviously too soon for jokes, but I couldn't help notice that the accident was caused by the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid- who, for reasons yet unexplained, named "Britt."

In time, I will question why Kato wasn't driving.

And what's with NFL assistant coaches names, anyway? KC has one who shares a name with the Green Hornet, while the Ravens have one named Wink Martindale. Will the Jets be bringing on Arthur Curry as a DC? Do the Texans have a spot for Jack Barry to help out?

Only two dogs on the walk this morning. That's because we said farewell the previous day to one of the original congregants of Dog Church, of which only Ursula remains, with Pepper as the only other one with perfect attendance since she came to us. Our Ebony, another friend's Jazz, and yet another's Lizzy have all made the journey to Rainbow Bridge in the years since this Sunday morning tradition began, and now Jake has gone to join them. His humans were two of my longest-standing friends in Buffalo, both going back to law school with me. We lost touch in my Rochester days, but our paths again crossed once the pups were in our lives, and he was with them for a very happy life.

Jake was 15; this we knew. What we didn't know was what, exactly, he was in terms of breeding. Didn't matter. I referred to him earlier as a "big giant heart with feet." And I'm sure that my friends Ellen and Ken, and all their family, have broken hearts this weekend. Ours join in the sorrow, and the joys of the past couple years of sharing memories (and occasionally mud) with him:

No pictures from today- forgot my phone- but we said many kind words in his memory.
