Cold and Some Final Warm
Jan. 12th, 2021 09:02 pmSlippery day here today by mid-afternoon. It was cold but clear at walkie and go-to-workie times, but when I got out of the office, rain had come and changed over, leaving my car under a lovely patina of ice. Fortunately, I don't have to drive far. Tomorrow is a Rochester day, so hopefully it's gotten that out of its system.
The Bills have been chosen for the S-A, T-U-R, D-A-Y, NIGHT! game this coming weekend (if you don't recognize that reference I'm not going to infect you with the earworm), where early predictions are of cold temperatures and likely snow. Other than the Christmas-and-day-after dump of the stuff, we really haven't had any to speak of, so the invaders from Baltimore will be as unfamiliar with it as we are. Heh.
Our film choice the past two nights was The Aeronauts on Prime. Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne, last seen together as Dr. & Dr. Stephen Hawking in Theory of Everything, bring off impressive chemistry above the clouds here. The film tracks their ascent and descent in real time, with flashbacks telling the rest of the tale. It's cold up there, and the film details their ways of measuring and coping with that eventuality.
One coda to our vet returning the remains of Boz to us: I didn't mention yesterday that, in my haste to get him to their office before closing time two weeks ago, I'd forgotten to take off the adorable little sweater that Eleanor had knitted for him right before the end, when he'd been seeking out heat registers and other warm places-

- and while I probably had time to call and ask them to save it, we decided not to. A friend commented on his return sans sweater just now:
Boz and his sweater will forever be the symbol that there is always hope, and if hope isn’t enough there’s plenty of love.
And that's as warm as it needs to get around here.
