They wouldn't listen.

The experts in infectious disease said there would be a rebound come, oh, right about now, when the weather started getting colder and people did more things inside, plus did things like Christmas shopping and holiday gatherings that would have been inside anyway.

People on their deathbeds from COVID are bitching about being misdiagnosed, going to their graves asserting it's all a hoax. Some are demanding to be treated for the flu or lung cancer they think they must have.

With former President Trump still in denial over his election loss, the national direction against the worst pandemic in a century is being led by a radiologist and a former crackhead pillow salesman. A member of his own soon to be former cabinet, a physician himself who has the disease, has turned to the My Pillow Guy for treatment.  And the real infectious disease experts on the payroll are still being forbidden to speak to the transition team.

Finally, it all hit home.  Most of nearby upstate New York, including us, has been back up in the "yellow" zone for some time now as positive test rates and hospitalizations have resumed a spike.  Late Wednesday, though, word came out that most places in Erie County, including the town we live and work in, have been elevated to the "orange" zone. That means no sit-down restaurants, no haircuts, and no gym activity as of today. I snuck in my last workout at the end of the day yesterday; efforts to get my head trimmed were started too late.  At the moment, ::checks- okay:: Rochester is still yellow, so I have a workout booked there and will try to get hair in as well before my afternoon appointment on Monday the 20th. (All with masks, and distancing, and sanitizing, TYVM.)  Courts had already shut down most in-person appearances as of last week throughout the state, and more restrictions on personnel and proceedings will likely follow.

All of this because deniers be denying.  The same people now putting IMPEACH CUOMO signs on their lawns, where the MAGA sign used to be, are largely the ones who've been congregating in larger than recommended numbers, not sanitizing, wearing masks only where mandated if even then.  Eleanor took Wednesday off due to a combination of physical pain and emotional strain from the COVIDiots, and reported after her return yesterday that the line was running about two-to-one in favor of kindness and decency. That still meant that a third of her customers were in active denial, being affronted that anyone would DARE tell them where to stand or what to wear.  They're also the loudest complainers about the nice things we suddenly can't have anymore.

Look in the mirror, assholes. And then scrub it down with bleach before we have to stand in front of it:P

At least one of our neighbors has the right idea for the Thanksgiving placesetting:

Meanwhile, the road to Rochester remains open- for now. After one cold day earlier in the week, it's back up to 60F today, so I'm not expecting any snow problems any time soon. The only possible traffic backups will be coming in the construction zones as an era finally ends:

For most of the past 35 years, I’ve passed through that tollbooth at least a couple times a week every week, morning and midnight, heat and blizzard. For roughly half that time, I’ve had an EZ-Pass and have not had to take a ticket or hand over a toll. Still, it was surreal to go through there for the first times on Tuesday with the toll takers completely gone and the dreaded backup of the Williamsville toll barrier already half gone.  It's been three days since, and the gantry-read "charges" from that trip still haven't shown up (all zeroes, usually, since I have a permit plan that covers most of my mainline 90 toll charges). I'm hoping they'll get it right; if not, I can always hire Roodles the Clown to file a lawsuit claiming that Hugo Chavez is stealing the tolls from his grave.

Dude's not having a good week.  Among other things, he lied on his application to appear on a one-time basis in the central PA federal court where he's doing his master's bidding. A member of the DC Bar in good standing?

He's also out of compliance in the Second Circuit (admittedly, so am I, but I never claimed otherwise), and between his inexperience and faulty hair dye, he'll be lucky to avoid grievance proceedings in the last place he is still allowed to practice.

We took Eleanor's car in for service this morning, and the dog promptly got a hold of a bag of chocolate treats. She seems okay, but we're keeping an eye out.  The kittens, on the other hand, get treats on purpose: this one is mainly Zini's, to give him something to chew on other than our fingers and elbows while we're asleep. It's basically a catnip bong, and he's already figured out how to bogart it:

There was also a bit of "lit" at this week's poetry reading, although you can't get a contact high through Zoom meetings (our wifi kept crapping out, so maybe that's not true;).  Over the rest of that night and finishing last night, we watched a Netflix film called The 40-Year Old Version  (not Virgin), written, directed and starred in by a Black woman of almost that age who turns to hip-hop to get out of her writing and life doldrums.  We also begun watching Derek Jacobi in Last Tango in Halifax (not Paris, and I am NOT linking to a trailer with a nekkid Brando in it), and are caught up for now on The Mandolorian, which I don't think can be confused with anything....

although they DID find an apparent relative of Baby Yoda in the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree!

May the Force be with you, and mask a shall wear you!
