and I say, it's all right!

Two new bankruptcy intakes earlier this week. One from the previous week is all done and awaiting signature. Two more from previous weeks following up. Several of these could be package-deal filings of an individual and business at the same time.  Overall, filings are still down from this time a year ago, both in Buffalo and Rochester overall and on my own case list, but it's just a matter of time before people start getting sued, evicted and foreclosed on again (all currently prohibited in New York through at least early June and beyond that for some things).

Speaking of floods, I finally made some headway getting our back forty mowed last night. My first effort a couple of Sundays ago had to be bailed on- in some places, literally- because of how much mud and rain were still puddled back there. It was so much of a swamp back then, you'd think I'd had three castles sink into it:

It was the first significant exercise I've gotten in quite some time, and I felt it, both soreness last night and sleeping almost until 7 a.m., way past the usual Whining of the Cats this morning. I was in the middle of a dream that can only be described as a Muppet horror movie. Parades of felt marching through a near abandoned shopping mall. I'm not sure if the Muppets were the zombies or the zombie meat; with characters like Animal, it's hard to tell.

There's also plenty of stupidity in the world to be stomped on.  Here's an actual meme going around from the OMGVoterFraud crowd:

I gently suggested to the poster that the whole point of vote-by-mail this time is so this DOESN'T go any more viral than it already is.

Some local counties have gotten the go-ahead to begin their reopenings on a staggered schedule. Erie is not among them; I suspect it's because we have an unusually high percentage of COVIDiots marching around maskless and demanding their mani-pedi's and tats.  I've also seen posts from a lot of people who are upset that gyms are down in the fourth reopening phase here. One owner, who I love, is taking it really personally, like this kind of business is being picked on. I miss it too, but I get it. It is an activity that is always going to generate sweat, heavy breathing, and once in a while a little blood. None of these are good things right now. Until we have some form of immunity certification, I’m not gonna be comfortable with anything other than one on one personal training. I’ll go less and pay more. Then there is the almost collective sigh around here about them canceling the Erie County Fair in August.I don’t think they’ve done it yet, but it’s looking pretty inevitable. This event is more of a symbolic gesture, a harbinger of the “end of summer,“ not any real great shakes in terms of entertainment. Do people really need funnel cakes and a demolition derby so much as to risk exposure to their own kids, right before they go back to school?

The scariest thing for me right now is the resistance to the resistance.  It's not enough for some people to say "no" to protective measures; they're getting into fights, and running into courts, to assert their right to be stupid and even preventing other people from protecting themselves (see the CEOS last week who were ordered to remove their own masks when meeting with Mike Pence).

Then there's the hairdresser named Shelly Luther, or as I like to call her, Martyr Luther Queen. She's become the darling of the COVIDiot movement, is getting hundreds of thousands in gofundme donations, got her fine paid by the Texas lieutenant governor, and is getting all kinds of conservative celebrities showing up at her hair salon. Oh, and seven days in jail for contempt of court is just not fair for a pretty white woman, so she got out of that, too. But now it comes out she got a PPP loan specifically to pay the poor poor pitiful employees she didn’t want to see go hungry. Watch this to see her try dancing her way out of THAT revelation.

And whether you're fighting political corruption (i.e., you're for it), or you just don't like governors telling you what to do? Stay-at-home goes too far? Call William the Barr!

"Don't wait! Deep State!"

OK, now you have my brain going on a Beatles/Peter Gabriel mashup. (It won't work, they're in entirely different time signatures, but my brain is still thinking pondering...)
