A scene from a library, just now, dropping off their copy of Vitus and picking up Book Number 50 of the year, by Lynda LaPlante, of all people.

OPEN ON car, pulling into handicapped spot next to library front entrance as Your Humble Narrator is walking out.

CUT TO right rear door, where SONNY, our tweenish anti-hero, goes running out and into the library where all the books are.

But not where GRANDMA is. No, she's opened the front passenger door and has planted her walker on the wet pavement, fully expecting SONNY to assist her.

GRANDMA
(panicked)
Get back here, SONNY! This walker is going to slip and I'll fall and can't get up!

okay, she really didn't use the real Lifelock commercial line. But close enough.

SONNY
::hurries back from his texting or visions of SugarPS3 dancing in his head::

MOM
::runs round from other side of car::

ME
(trying to be helpful but failing at wiping the fool smirk off face)
Are you okay, there? Can I hold the edge of that for you?

See, this is why we needed to cut the library budget. They're DANGEROUS, I tell you!

Yeah, because they're full of books, and hey, that can lead to something radical, like reading. And then, dare I suggest it - thinking?

Clearly the libraries will provoke some of that ultraviolence...

We bought my dad a shirt that says "Weeding is Fundmental."

He still wears it.
