Yup, it's still a holiday weekend:P

January 1st, July 4th. Traditional times in this household for either major household disasters or painful personal injuries.

Due to the holiday schedule, Eleanor is working today, but later than usual, 3:30 to 9. About an hour ago, she headed for the shower while I went downstairs to retrieve some wash. I heard the water starting, stopping, starting again. Then she called out:

"Did you just run a hot load?"

Nope. Washer hasn't run in close to two hours.

Sure enough, the water heater has stopped heating water.  On the hottest day in three years.

It looks like it may just be the pilot. Emily's out, too, and I don't want to blow myself up alone, so we're going to be futzing with this thing at 9:30 tonight. Otherwise, it's Ed Youngs in the morning. That is not a morning zoo radio show.

Given the heat, it'll probably work fine to boil a dutch oven of water and just throw it in the tub in the morning.

Well, it wasn't the pilot (or I'm going to feel like a blithering idiot for having lay there with eight matches trying to light the damn thing while Emily hepped).

It's not leaking, and it may just be a connection issue.

Best of all, nobody blowed up real good.

Since the bottom of the damn thing didn't blow up, and since the pilot's not lighting, it looks like the culprit's a cheapo part called a thermocoupler. Which, if my name were Kaylee and not Ray, I think I'd have a shot at fixing myself.
