Continuing the long tradition of B-grade movie actors showing up in Republican politics, we now get the latest from Ben Stein. Previously famed for making fun of, anyone?, anyone? Reagan's voo-doo economics, and for continuing to believe that Jesus rode on a dinosaur after the earth was created in 6000 BC, Ben has now turned to the current political balance of this country, and rather dislikes Obama cutting a limited deal with BP to get a commitment, before they wind up under a gagillion cheap lawsuits or a Chapter 11, to escrow 20 billion for damages:

We live in a Constitutional Republic. The President's job under the Constitution is to enforce the laws made by the elected Congress. His job is not to create new laws and enforce them all by himself. His job is as magistrate under the Constitution, not as Caudillo. He is not the law. He is supposed to enforce what Congress decides.

As I asked on [livejournal.com profile] jblaque's post about this goofy issue when I read it a few moments ago: I about peed my pants laughing when I heard that. Where was this rhetoric in the last administration when Dummy Bush and Dick "You Can't Even See My Lips Move" Cheney formulated this nation's complete energy policy at the WH, without even telling anyone (anyone?), including Congress, who the participants in the sessions even were.

Oh, sorry, I forgot. IOKIYAR.

Go back on TV and host your new show, Win BP's Blood Money.

Now, in fairness to Ben Stein he has always been a conservative. He was a speechwriter for Nixon and Ford, and he was involved in politics before he got into the Hollywood scene (which he did at first because he was consultant on politics and economics, then eventually went in front of the camera starting with Ferris Bueller).

I would absolutely believe that comment came from him, and it's not at all the same as Hollywood know-nothings hopping onto the bandwagon.
