As any parent can confirm to you, the lil' ones don't like changes in their routine. No way, no how. They act out.

So it has been here these past few days.

Eleanor picked up a lot of extra hours, and notably a lot of earlier ones, this week. Her usual start times are between 11 and 1, but this week has had a 10:30 start (today), a 9:00 (Tuesday), and a totally redonkulous 7 a.m. opening yesterday.  I've been here more than usual those days (at least compared to the madness of the past couple of weeks), but I work from home and I think, frankly, they're just used to me being around. It's Mommy's unexcused absence that leads to the oddities.

Yesterday, Zoey took it out on the yarn. She's been laying off her early-day decorating of the floor with strands of the stuff shooting around at infinite angles in every decoration, but after I got up, showered and headed for coffee yesterday, she'd wound one small ball of yarn around every chair and table leg, most of their toys, and hit all but one room of the entire house. It took me close to half an hour just to get roughly half of it back on the ball (the other half still leading to a piece Eleanor has already begun working on).

Then, just now, the cat began to gaslight me.

I walked into the bathroom and noticed we were down a roll of TP. I could've sworn I'd been a good boy and replaced it when it was running low this morning, but that's not an uncommon occurrence in this house, so I just brought another one out.  As I headed to the cellar door to retrieve some wash, I discovered the evidence:

At this rate, I'd better invest in some lead-lined underwear before she starts going after THAT.

red diaper doper baby Wut???

Oh, and poor Eleanor and the yarn! And poor you and the TP! I'd say poor Zoey, but I think she can take care of herself. o_O

Yeah, that was a stray pop-culture reference that didn't really work. It's gone.

After I posted that, I showed the phone pic to our receptionist, who's more of a dog person, and in two minutes she opened up more than she typically does in a year. She just had to put down a longtime pup, and also just got another one, and starting to talk about it brought her to tears. So go figure- TPing your house can be therapeutic.
