So. It's been almost two weeks since The Great Silence, a little over a week since it's been mostly fixed. Varnish errors are down, comments are slow but generally appearing, and Good Gods and Rasputins, the comment spam is back.

But it's changed.

Over those several days, some of my dearest friends jumped onto other lifeboat platforms and have mostly stayed there. My dearest of dear friends just found more to do with her own life, and jewelry, and has cut way down on posting.

Two years ago, I'd wake up on a typical morning to close to 20 actual posts from actual LJ users. Before this last DDo-bacle, other social networks had cut that down to maybe a dozen. Now? I'm lucky to find three or four.

At least one I know is afraid to come back; whether it's out of a once-bitten-twice-shy sense, or just not wanting to see how sadly it's all degenerated, I'm not sure.  Until last week, with the exception of my two 1,000-plus-mile weekend trips from June and July, in 2011 I'd posted something public every. Freakin'. DAY. Now, it hardly seems even worthy as a goal- and on days like yesterday, which were uneventful but in a dull, humid foreboding kinda way? I didn't even feel the need to try.

Yet most days, I plod along- even if I initially post more of the plodding someplace else and then immediately cross-post it. If it weren't for the good lives and better hearts of the people behind those usernames, I wouldn't have taken either of those weekend trips, one of which was merely fun but the other one of which was for a worthy cause. I wouldn't have known of that cause, or any of the other people involved in it, if it hadn't been for this journal and its offshoot. And I wouldn't have known to try to use my lawyer-referring services, or to successfully offer my editing services, both for an immensely good cause, if several of you hadn't boosted that signal to and through me. From that, I've had a potentially life-changing experience for me and met yet another never-met Friend.

The irony in the whole business is that a DDoS attack- which works by simulating an overpopulation of users to a server- has resulted in such an underpopulating of those very servers in its wake. It has done the impossible in that it's taken a malaprop by Yogi Berra and actually made it make sense: Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.

Fuck the Kremlin. Say something.

*squishes*

Oddly enough, I noticed spammers had no problem posting during the whole kerfluffle.

I'm rarely online anymore at all except to check in on a few sites.

I'm here and have no intention of leaving till LJ's service becomes so f*cked that I can't post or read here any more. Too many of my friends are leaving too. Most post to FB so often that they don't come here any more. Others have jumped ship to other journal formats - *different* formats - which means that in order to read them all, I need to create 3 or 4 different new accounts (or at least check 3 or 4 different pages) which just is NOT going to happen. It's sad, but if someone leaves without worrying about keeping in touch with me, I'm certainly not going to worry overmuch about keeping up with them, :)

Hubby is psyched for the Sabres opening games in Europe. Any idea if they'll be televised?

You're paid, so you can create RSS feeds for non-LJ blogs and pop them on your friendspage. (Or if you've got a few you'd like me to set up, send me the links.)

My guess is that Versus will carry the Europe games. Whether anyone other than Buffalo actually gets that on cable, I've no clue.

I have a few set up to read, but I can't reply, unfortunately, so I'm forced to visit their page, which doesn't notify me that they responded unless I set up an account over there too. It's a big pain in the ass. If most of them went to the same site, I might convert over, but between Dreamwidth and Blogger and Blogspot and InsaneJournal... who has the time, really?

I hate Versus. The announcers suck. :(

I don't post or comment much (my life is much too dull, and what interests me is of no interest to most others), but I intend to stay.

As far as the DDoS attack goes, people suck.

My computer was down for 2.5 weeks. I finally got it back yesterday morning, good as new, went to sign on LJ and..it was down. Such is my life.

Sadly, I have nothing of any consequence whatsoever to report. :-/

Also, was this weekend when Decemberists were playing? My dad had surgery on Wednesday, and I've mostly been staying with him since then. He is not healing very well and having a lot of pain, so if I'm not actually there, I'm sort of on call in case he needs something. I won't really be going anywhere for a while.

Now, see? That was entirely of consequence. Prayers for your father and for you, as well.

The Decemberists were this past Monday night; people were far more gaga over ZZ Top playing the same venue the following night.

Wow, kinda amazing that a band that was relevant 20+ years ago can still garner a bigger crowd than a band that plays twelve instruments simultaneously, composed an epic rock opera AND released an amazing album last year. Kids these days, I tell ya.

Yeah, I should make a post about dad. He had hernia surgery two and a half years ago, and just recently found out he had yet another. This one has really had him down. He had a slight infection around the incision site and has been feeling pretty crappy. Then he had a reaction to the Lortab they gave him for pain. Poor guy, I've felt so bad for him this week.

I'm sorry that my posting has been slow...My mind has not been in the best of states and I've not wanted to bring anyone else into the maelstrom. I have a feeling that cooler temps will help a bit.

I've missed my friends here too...

I'm not going anywhere else. We'll see how long I can justify staying on here.
