I ended my active workday late this afternoon (as opposed to my picking up after myself workday, which ended about 10 minutes ago) in the office of a friend and fellow attorney who refers me a fair number of bankruptcy cases. She shares an office with another attorney, and while waiting for the new client to arrive, the other lawyer's assistant asked if I wanted to see some cute pictures of the other assistant's grandson.
He was cute and adorable indeed, but he was wearing Pittsburgh Penguins gear. I made an offhand remark about his bad taste in wardrobe.
Oops.
Tara's assistant, it turns out, is the mother of a certain Brooks Orpik, born in Amherst in 1980 and a star defenseman for the Penguins, as well as one of the Team USA members from this past season's Olympics.
Fortunately, I was able to deflect my faux pas by telling her that one of our ministers gets even more ridicule than THAT from our congregation, on account of his being a lifetime Philadelphia Flyers fan. Once we had someone in common to hate even more, Brooks's mom and I were cool again.
At least until the second round. Buffalo just clinched their division title tonight and will likely play Montreal, Boston or Philly in the first round.
