Return to Semi-Normal
Feb. 13th, 2010 09:32 pmWe spent a relatively standard-sanity Saturday around the house today. I begged out of my all-day church class, which I would've been barely ready for and wanted to put more of a genuine effort into; it will get that a month from now when the class is offered again. Emily finished her portfolio for one of her college applications, while I got most of her financial aid applicationy crap under control. The only freak-out moment of the day came when she asked for a Priority Mail envelope for her stuff; I gave it to her and told her I'd put it in the mail on Tuesday, since by then it was too late to take to the post office on a Saturday. Panic: "Daddd! It has to be postmarked by the 15th! I didn't know there wasn't any mail on Monday! Et cetera!" Ultimately, we worked it out, getting it to the one late-hour mail facility near the airport while it was still open late this afternoon, but hopefully we all learned a thing or two about why the word "deadline" begins with the word "dead."
On the latter subject, we just finished watching an incredibly funny library gem movie, this one a selection Eleanor made: Hot Fuzz, a British spoof of the cop-buddy genre from the Shaun of the Dead crowd, with a whole bunch of Beeb/Who/Harry Potter actors in the house as well, from Jim Broadbent and Bill Nighy to Timothy Dalton (who I didn't even recognise as a former James Bond when he played Rassilon in EOT). They make fun of just about every police cliche in history, many of them on purpose, ticking off a whole list of them that they deliberately tried to imitate after Roger Ebert identified a bunch of them in a book he wrote a few years back.
And in what I hope is a return to normalcy, the Sabres just won in regulation for the first time in about a month, their last game heading into the Olympic break. Why they're still playing NHL contests after the Games started, I have no idea, but I'll take the two points right about now.
Enjoy your love, cuddles and/or sweets tomorrow. We've already had shares of all of them here together today:)
