Not a good day for us. Marvelous day for the gremlins, though.
As Eleanor already posted, she spent much time today trying to wrestle the safety-switch assembly back into our washing machine, and despite getting it out of the guts of the machinery, that turned out to be the easy part. Instead of being held in place by a simple and steady bracket, the missing piece turned out to be a swiveling little piece of plastic that was almost impossible to line back up with the holes into which it meshed with the screws (one of which had its Phillips-style head stripped off by me, two weekends ago, in my one and only effort in over 20 years to remove it). Even after I replaced the stripped baby (for all of 11 cents at Ed Youngs), it still wouldn't hold. It seemed designed for one purpose: to be serviced by a Qualified Professional.
She also discovered that her printer had shit the bed last night, and the suspected cause- a new cartridge I'd bought for it late last year- turned out to be functionally fine when I took it to the store whence it came. Also also, her new computer continues to have power issues, spontaneously shutting itself off at least once a day. Guru has been called and will look at it on Wednesday.
That was morning. Afternoon consisted, for me at least, of more uselessness. I walked out of two different copy places on account of their indifference to my showing up and offering them a roughly $200 copy-collate-and-staple job that has to be done by tomorrow. Next, I dropped off papers for a deposition tomorrow which, again, wound up being called off. Finally, I stopped at two different court offices to pick up filed papers from the week before Christmas- both of which are still processing documents dropped off or mailed in two weeks before that.
Getting Yet Another Hitchcock Movie was about the only thing I accomplished all afternoon. Well, that and a small grocery run between the Petsmart and Tarjay over on the Boulevard. The latter now has its own in-store Starbucks- as does the Barnes and Noble four storefronts down from it, and as does the standalone store on the corner of Ridge Lea next to the Timmy Ho's. I seriously wonder if we are approaching the Starbucks Event Horizon.
Tomorrow is another day. Unfortunately, I suspect the gremlins say the same thing when THEY go to bed:P

Now I am a weird, cheerful yet easily frightened adult.
Funny how that works....
