As bitter-cold Saturdays go, dayum is this a pretty one. Enough so, I got outside and got some pictures of the collection of icicles which has taken over the downspout over our bathroom:

That one reminded me of Jimmy Stewart's cast from the movie the other night- only I think it might be longer than his leg.

The ones in the back were similarly impressive, but I beat them back the other night. One of them fell to the ground intact, and was just the right size and shape to grab it, march into Emily's room, wield it like a lightsabre, and say, "Emily- Iiiii, am your fathhhhh-er!" "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

----

The tree is packed away for another year. During the takedown, we first listened to the podcast version of an NPR show Eleanor has raved about here, called "From the Top," a collection of interviews and performance pieces from high school aged classical musicians. When that ended, I clicked back the .mp3 player to Great Big Sea, and  appropriately enough, we began removing all the lights from the tree to the tune of "Shines Right Through Me."  (I also reminded myself during the album that Sean McCann's collection of lullabies comes out next month, on the 23rd- that's now calendared:)

My friend Janice's bones are clean! Yay! Thanks for all the kind words and prayers here and all around for her.

Good Lord...that reminds me of the episode of "Mythbusters" where the myth being tested was whether one could be killed if an icicle fell on him/her. The answer was plausible, but the icicle must be huge and be VERY high above said person. That being said, I think any ant under the one pictured here is a goner.

YAY For Janice!!
