Worst. Dexter. Spoiler. EVER.
Dec. 7th, 2009 10:12 amUsually, I feed my frenzy for the very recently deceased on Mondays, capturing the previous night's Dexter episode via on-demand and watching it at my convenience after work that day, or whenever I can fit it in. I usually don't watch, or even record it, as it airs on Sunday nights, because that's family time. When it comes to Dexter, I work alone.
This time, though, all the hype and anticipation came over me, enough to want to at least get it DVR'd before bed last night. There were minor distractions, though, and I didn't notice the time until closer to 9:15. But no problem, right? Showtime has that "start over" button that lets you begin the show late. So I watched the mosquito and the "quirky music" begin, set it to record for an hour, but went to check on it sometime right around 10, just to be sure I hadn't messed up.
The DVR was displaying only 40 minutes of record time when I turned it back on. The huh? And instead of the thrilling final moments of Dexter, the television was showing the beginning of Californication. The double huh?!? Does it speed up the broadcast to fit 50-odd minutes of show into a 40 minute window? Better play it back and find out.
All was well, until about 30 minutes in, when this lovely image appeared on the recording:

So if you "start over" an episode longer than 30 minutes, you just get.... sliced into little pieces?
Yeah, seems appropriate for this show.
So I re-recorded the back end, and finished it just now while waiting to find out if I'm shlepping out of town, AGAIN!, for all of a ten-minute hearing in about five hours.
Wow. Just.... wow. Next Sunday at 9, you guys are MINE.
