It's all good.
Oct. 31st, 2009 07:18 pm* I quit my gym today. No, I'm not turning into a fat(ter) tub of goo, but the BAC, the previous one Eleanor and I were both with, has a well-deserved reputation for being pushy about keeping you in long-term commitments. We'd each had a deal (hers prepaid through our quintipenultimate insurance plan, mine through monthly debit) to pay around $25-30 a month on a one-year contract. Last month, she switched to something called Planet Fitness on a special that was $1 enrollment and then $10 a month forever, she being the one to define how long "forever" is. I was a little behind the curve, since my BAC membership doesn't renew until 11/15, but today, after at least four occasions in October when the BAC pulled my membership card and wouldn't give it back until I renewed, I turned in a coupon at the new place and got the same deal she did. No aerobics classes or personal trainers or 20 other things I never used, a downer-home bunch of people from first glance, and No. Fucking. FOXsucker News. On their overhead TV's. I like it already. It even has a "grunt alarm"- which goes off when a gym rat grunts too much, or doesn't rerack weights, or even "judges." That would expel dozens of guys in the last place; at our gym before that (the community center where Emily was in daycare from '94 to '03), it'd catch similar numbers, even more if the "grunt alarm" went off for the old Jewish zaydes who constantly wanted to tell you, oy, about their hoinia operation....
* While I was away, a fax came in from the clerk who'd almost, ever-so-closely, admitted to being w-r-r-r-o..... about a filing issue earlier in the week. Somehow, fates intervened, and I got an outright faxed confession from them that I was, in fact, right, and even better, that (and this is a quote) "we will change our procedures accordingly." Please, someone, fix the hole at the bottom of the universe before it all leaks out.
* Em and friends are about to head out on Halloween rounds:

One Alice (who did the hair), one Queen (who did the makeup) and one March Hare (who's adorable enough that who cares what she did). Now if only my hostess from the other night will introduce them to a certain Cheshire Cat of her acquaintance, we'll have virtually an entire remake here.
* I figured out how to really fix the issue with my office email and slowness of Youtubery from before I left. Twas the damn router again. It's routing once more.
* Did I mention life was good? Yeah it is.

Is there anything better than being told you are right by people that love to tell people they are wrong? I think not!
