A Thursday night outside of Baltimore. My friend and charming hostess is watching Survivor, which for me ranks right up there with rooting for either of the combatants in tonight's Series game, so I'll do a quick two-day updating here.

The cranky old car made it here with nary a problem. It still gets about as good mileage as our other Focus when it's on the open road. I took an odd set of back roads to get from my last court appointment yesterday to my sister's last night. Where else but upstate NY can you pass through the birthplaces of Millard Fillmore and John D. Rockefeller AND a street sign for Suckerport Road, all on the same state highway?

After a bit of time with my sister, it was on to points south. 81 to 476 to 95 got me here in around four hours, even with stops for lunch, gas and getting Billy Joel hopelessly stuck in my head at the Allentown Service Area on the Northeast Extension. Other Donna and I have met, hugged, taken the house tour, had me well and truly sniffed by her slightly insane aminal,...

...Luna. Or Lunatic, as she seems to prefer....

and had severely awesome crab creations known as "lumps" (apparently the backfins of the crab, the sweetest part of the critter, broiled and lightly breaded) at this totally awesome seafood shack a mere block away from my friend's now and former home. Even though she's been going there since she was a kid, she didn't realize, as the menu clearly stated, that "Pop" Schultz had moved here, more than 70 years ago, from some dumb place called Buffalo, New York. As I've said to many a person, when the first NASA team lands on Mars, they're gonna find Mighty Taco wrappers laying around from the first unheralded visitors from North Tonawanda;)

Tomorrow, we shall putter around various stores and get me to the airport, if either of us can find our way to it;) Still shooting for home at around 8 tomorrow night.

i really need an icon like yours that says "i root for the red sox and whoever is playing the yankees." i don't care much about philly one way or the other (except for pedro, but it's minor, i didn't KNOW him as a red sox) but oh my god i want the yankees to lose. every time i see mark texiera i want to punch the t.v. bill simmons said he has the most punchable face in baseball and man is he RIGHT ON.

enjoy your mini trip!!
