Points to anyone who can source that. ETA. Preferably anyone who won't remember that I asked the same gorram question two years ago today.

From the number of "getting the kids ready for school" posts I've seen, I gather we're fairly vestigal around here in getting this day off from school and work and other functions besides the mandatory governmental ones. (This state would doubtless be the last dragged kicking and screaming to end it despite the Native American protests; hell, our public employees still even get Lincoln's Birthday off despite it having been Presidents-dayitized close to 40 years ago.) One way to get rid of it would be to move our Thanksgiving up to this weekend to match our neighbours; it would work better on a weekend, would end that hideous late-November lull where one official "day off" turns into three totally unproductive workdays, and the weather would be far better for travel, at least in these parts. And it has as much of a chance of ever happening as Mr. Carlson's turkeys have of flying. If it would help, we could just declare the last Friday of November as National Shopping Insanity Day and make official what's happened anyway.

In that last post, I made reference to Canadian musicians, in particular to being thankful for "a half dozen other musical treasures you probably have never heard of" in addition to the three that I named.  That was nasty, brutish and way short.  As we went through the CD cabinet, we rattled off close to another 20 artists who we've come to know and love, most of them still active to one extent or another.  In odd order (since the A-K's are in one place and the L-to-the-ends are in another):

k.d. lang. Avril Lavigne. Paul Shaffer (here on account of a Letterman soundtrack album). Lowest of the Low. The McGarrigles (and their relative Rufus Wainwright, but I don't think we have any of his). Sara McLachlan. Amanda Marshall (yeah, and that other "AM" chick too, but you've heard of her.) Joni, though you probably don't remember her for that. The Nylons. Oscar Peterson. Spirit of the West. The Hip. Jann Arden. BNLs and CTDs (who really should've merged at some point into the Barenaked Dummies). Cowboy Junkies. Bruce Freaking Cockburn.  Diana Krall. Chantal Kraviazuk. I'm likely leaving oot at least a few.

And that's just who we have. (Celine Dion did come up in conversation, Terri, but she's practically a Nevada resident now and I suspect the Queen will be banishing her soon.)

Even better, thanks to the miracles of Teh Interwebs, we found out that a couple of our long-dormant faves have gotten back in studio. Wikipedia reports that after an almost nine year lull, Amanda has a new album due out in February, and Jann Arden has a new one that's available, like, now:)

----

Off to read some, write some, and probably even attempt 'rithmetic. Emily's finding AP Calc to be a bit of a bear, so I'm thinking about getting out a Dummies book and trying to reactivate some 32-year-old brain cells.
