Not a single member of the current generation of conservative spokespeople is fit to carry your jockstrap, much less strap it on.

Your love of language always surpassed the fire for your ideology, which was fiery enough.

For years, your language column was the only reason I still read the Sunday Times. No one can ever carry that happy burden, either.

Farewell. And fare well. I won't ask you say hi to your former boss for me, because I fully believe I'll be  meeting Nixon in hell before you do.

Truly a loss to journalism...a great mind. His use of the Enlish language was eloquent and powerful and is superior to yelling and arm-waving any day.
