The anniversary trip and the Lake Ontario-shore dinner are off.
But I can't think of a better reason why.
Would you like to see it? (Some, I know, already have.)
I first noticed this little black-and-white furball rattling around across the street from us sometime yesterday afternoon. It seemed skittish when I moved even closely in that direction, and neither Eleanor nor Emily had seen it before. By late this morning, though, he was back, and definitely a he; one could get a clear view of his, um, equipment as he was chowing down on some om noms our neighbor Renee had left for him.
Earlier, their baby daughter had spilled some Cheerios outside the house, and this poor kitty came over to devour them. Renee put out food and water for him, which he desperately needed. He's clearly somebody's, from how affectionate and beautiful he is, but damn was he thin and needy.
We got off the shot above, and while I drove him to the SPCA for his temporary hostelry, Em printed up posters from the picture and we just got back from spreading them all over the neighborhood. After all that, a very late lunch and a pre-trip grocery/library run for Emily before we left, I just didn't have all my energy to get up and go- and moments after we got back home, Eleanor came in to tell me, pretty much, the same thing.
So we'll remember #22, mostly, through the third, or sixth, or eighth of that little guy's nine lives which we helped save today. We'll still have dinner out, and probably church tomorrow, but here rather than there and the new rather than the old.
And if nobody claims him by Thursday, his name will forever be Charlie (not sure why- he just looks like a Charlie) and he'll be open to adoption. I don't think we can, but we'll help with the adoption for anybody else who can. Since he's about a year old, we think, we'll hopefully be remembering this as his birthday, as well as it being our anniversary, for many years to come.
