When you first saw the Mickey D's promotion for their new Angus burgers, you thought the same thing I did:



Maybe it's just us from my old home town, though. We had a glazier next to the Meadow Dairy who had a huge sign running the entire side of his building, in 12-foot-tall block letters advertising it as ED'S GLASS WORKS, and almost every Halloween night, some galoots (as my mother would call them) came by and whitewashed out the G and the L.

Yep... there's a big farm about five miles from my house where they raise Black Angus cattle. Years ago, someone removed the G and it's never been put back. I cannot see anything about an "Angus" burger anywhere without thinking that.

In most of the world (including, presumably, where that photo was taken), those edits make no sense, but this is Buffalo, home of longtime old-school professional wrestler Ilio DiPaolo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilio_DiPaolo), who popularized the full Nelson, the half Nelson, and possibly the Ozzie Nelson.

About once a year, I get to go to an after-wake dinner at Ilio's still-standing Lackawanna restaurant. It's almost as much of a local honor as a burial through Amigone Funeral Home.
