I hate when communities go from like-minded kindred spirits to enforcrz of ruulz. This, for instance, a copy-and-paste of what I thought was a fun and flitty conversation between a Friend and his beloved:

("Me" is [livejournal.com profile] targaff, btw, a former Manchesterian...., the other party his wife....)

Me: ... isn't "toilet snake" a euphemism? ;p
Sioneva: Oh. My. GOD!!!!
Sioneva: THIS is why I check the toilet before I sit. THIS!!! THIS!!
Sioneva: AND IT WAS IN MANCHESTER!!!
Sioneva: OMG!!!
Me: .... this is why you check the toilet before you sit?
Sioneva: YES!
Sioneva: Snakes and rats!
Sioneva: SNAKES AND RATS!
Sioneva: That bite your butt!
Me: freak
Sioneva: SNAKES!!!
Sioneva: AND RATS!!!
Sioneva:

Me: I'm not looking at a link about fricking toilet rats ;p
Me: i am in fact tempted to copy and paste this conversation into lj :>
Sioneva:
http://www.uncoveror.com/potty.htm
Sioneva: ;"The Federal Bureau of Statistics reports that in 1997, there were 105 reported toilet bowl snake attacks, resulting in 17 fatalities. In 1998, there were 135 attacks and 30 fatalities. In 1999, 200 attacks were reported, and 50 fatalities."
Me: is that about rats and snakes in potties?
Sioneva: SNAKES IN TOILETS!!!
Sioneva: TOILETS!!!!
Sioneva: SNAKES! BITING YOUR BUTT!
Sioneva: IN THE TOILET!!!
Sioneva: Post it to LJ if you will.
Me: i'm ignoring you now :>
Sioneva: People will just read the links and KNOW THAT I'M RIGHT!

Within two minutes, one of the self-appointed members of the Metaquote Inquisition had duly responded to me with

    Read the rules, please.

Followed, moments later, by another:

Is this originally from an IM conversation?

As if that makes something less original, or funny. It wasn't posted as such, but hey, virtually every LJ entry arises out of real life to some extent.

Since I'm too tired and drunk to keep up a flame war, I deleted the thing. I care what YOU 80-odd people think more than the 13,028 members of that comm think, at least 2,000 of whom are in serious need of num-nums and a nap right about now.

I think it's 'Mancun' for the adjective referring to being from Manchester-- I might be up that way over Xmas to see a panto, so I'll ask (if I go).

And yes, it's funny, and the mods of many comms are assholes. fanthropology is virtually dead, thanks to its mods. Everyone just posts their CFPs to virgule.

That would make me a "former Rocun." I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

But thank you. I trust your judgement on humour far more than the 13K of them.

Well, the '-chester' comes from the Latin 'castrum' (or so the the theory goes) so at least you're from a well-protected area. :)

Yes, Mancunian is correct.

I'm SOOOOOOOO glad these people are here to enforce these VERY important rules. I shall sleep better tonight. BTW, I need a nap.
