Steve Martin originated that image in the context of people smoking in public in front of you. This is worse, and I'll leave a room if I smell death sticks in it.

First and foremost, just so there is no confusion, this story is not about LeeAnn, the simply wonderful co-worker of Eleanor's who was foster mommy to Zoey and her littermates. No, LeeAnn was three times removed from the birth mother; one of her daughters is friends with another kid, whose mamacat got loose while in heat, oh, about 68 days before the second of June, and produced five kittens in this other family's home- just in time for them to go on an extended vacay and dump the litter at LeeAnn's house somewhere in their fifth or sixth week of life- "just for a week or so," they promised.

Eleanor's co-worker is a dear soul and quite the animal lover, but LeeAnn's allergic to cats herself and her husband is not particularly fond of the species, either, so it was conduct above and beyond the call for her to keep the litter for more than a month after the original "emergency." She did well, placing one we never even got to meet, almost placing one of the all-black boy kitties (who came back to them when he turned out to be a girl), inevitably connecting Zoey to us, and eventually placing James, the orangest and in many ways cutest of the bunch-

-yeah, him; pardon my Saturday stubble.  That left the other two all-blacks, one of each gender, and sometime after our adoption, they went back to their original house.

I don't say "home" for that is a word  these people are totally undeserving of. LeeAnn told Eleanor over the weekend that she believes, based on things one of her daughters has told her, that the birth mother's human "family" (again, for lack of a better word) has decided to repay their kid's friend's kindness by imprisoning the two remaining kittens in crates in their cellar.  I presume they give them food, water and even toileting, and I know, the SPCA would do just the same or worse, but c'mon.  YOU chose not to fix your cat. YOU chose to take off a month at their most adoptable age. YOU are now risking their chances of long-term bonding with an eventual family- or worse than that.

LeeAnn feels so badly about it, she is ready to take one of the two in herself for good, damn the allergies. We just can't at this point, but what I will do is deliver to anywhere in a 400-mile radius with our love and gratitude.

I don't remember which is the male and which the female, but they would be the two black ones in this shot who you haven't seen 600 times on my blog, and Eleanor's, and FB already:

We will also accept prayers, donations toward their veterinary care (which these idiots totally don't deserve but the kittens do), and any stray voodoo dolls you may have hanging around.

Prayers are going up for the kitties. Donations would, if the belt so freakishly tightened up around here.

Those asshats.

Those are two adorable bundles of fluff. My husband will kiiiill me dead if If I offer to take in any more stray cats (silly man thinks three cats is ENOUGH, or something).

I can, however, make donations for their vet care. Where should I send funds?

That's very sweet, but I'm hoping it's now unnecessary. We found out the other day that the remaining babies now all have homes with a real capital "H."

We also heard, though, that Frau Blucher! and her family are moving away, and LeeAnn never got the info on who their vet is who, supposedly, will do the fixin' real cheap. We'll check with her to see if any of the other adopters have needs, and I'll let you know if so, but your kindness is ever so appreciated.
