This is more a placeholder than anything else, but I'm downing iced cappuccino and reconnecting with my electrons while waiting for something to happen that is beyond my control at this second.

A few quick observations (photoless at the moment, since Dunkie's cousin Dippy here left his iPhone cord in the car):

It took all of 500 feet past the I-95 exit on the Pike this morning before I saw my first bird flipped out of an adjacent car window. I don't even think I was the flippee, but it was nice to know some things never change.

Speshul note for Kristen: I drove right by Fenway Park! The last time I came in that way on the eastbound 90 was for a trivia bash in April of 2001. That night, Hideo Nomo pitched his no-hitter for the Sox (in Baltimore, admittedly). Since they're playing the Yankees tonight, I'd love beyond words for THAT tradition to continue.

Debbie and Gary live just as close to the end of the Pike as they used to, but getting there post-Big Dig is a much bigger exercise. Also, a much more confusing one. Never, EVER use a "Dunkin' Donuts" as a point of reference around here; it's like telling someone "I'm in a parking lot at an intersection with a traffic light in the middle of it."

Diner #3 continued the tradition of being documented on the other site. Or will, eventually.

The road from Southie to Salem is paved- barely in spots, but certainly with good intentions. I've got pics from a real museum and a Pirate Museum, as well as many hoodoo shops and nightmare galleries. Emily has a geegaw from the former I think she will like. My lunch with Hope was a delight; how did I let this friendship lapse for 30 years? Ain't happenin' again.

One way or another, I will be de-Salemated by 4. Just one hope remains, and I do pray it's not stuck at the bottom of a box /obscure

hoodoo shops indeed

Ray,
I very much enjoyed our time together. Glad you tasted the delights of Salem for a bit longer.... and I'm hoping you were successful with your Salem mission. You will definitely have to come visit again!

Hope
