Stop One on the tour, at my sister's, by way of pretty much a full day of work. No complaints about that, though, because I actually got a disgruntled civil servant to agree with me on something.

My client, let's call it X, is owed money by Y. Y, in turn, is owed money by Z. Simple junior high arithmetic tells me that Z, therefore, owes X the money- at least to the extent of Y's debt to X. Early today, I learned that a government agency, let's call it F.U., has already collected the money that Z owes to Y.

Now, I never expected that I could just show up at F.U.'s front window, hold out my hand, and get paid; but I did expect that they'd honor paperwork in the proper form to intercept those funds and direct them paid over to X.

F.U.!, said F.U., in so many words. Actually, what she said was, "I've worked here for 29 years and I've never seen anyone try to do THAT!"

::affects Bugs Bunny voice:: "She don't know me very well, do she?"

After explaining it a little more, talking verrrrrr eeeeee sloooow leeeeee, I actually heard her say, "Yeah, well if you put it that way, why COULDN'T you do that? I've still never seen it, though."  Moments later, she called back; her office's counsel had run the scenario, and while she asked for a minor change in the form, she agreed with me, too.

I feel speshul. I've served the papers. I may be a much happier campier on my return.

The drive from there to here was quick and mostly dry- a little rain in Palmyra, but you have to keep the Mormons clean at all times- but right now, there's a full-blown Ben Franklin science experiment going on out there. Some of the thunderclaps have been loud enough to make me cover my ears. Oh well- better tonight than in twelve hours when we have to be in hospital.

The rest of the trip is more-or-less set: Nicole's (my niece) sometime Thursday mid-day; possible coffee and just-as-possible help moving someone to? from? Somerville? first thing Friday; brunch with Debbie and Moe in Points Southie later that morning; a later lunch with a longlost high school friend in Lynn, Worcester by eventide, and back into my own state (confusion, as if that wasn't enough) the next day.
