A rough translation of Radar O'Reilly once trying to tell a family of Koreans to go home in their native language, but it works just as well for our first night in close to three years as a family of seven:

She's home.

Leukemia test negative. First round of shots for distemper. No worming- she's not even two pounds yet, so she'll get that with her second shot in a few weeks. She practically preened for Dr. Harry and did fine in the car rides to and fro.

Once here, all four of the other tenants proceeded to check her out. The dogs, more relentlessly, ruthlessly and doggedly than the older cats did. The dogs were enthused but decent overall. Taz and Michelle, on the other hand, promptly let out hisses at her, which were returned just as promptly, if squeakily.

Emily will be her nighttime companion to start- her bowls and box and toys (she likes the little kitty fishing rod) will be in her overnight digs.  All over the house, though, she's bright and alert and you can just see her wheels turning as she figures out this new life she's got.

LeeAnn, her foster mommy for the last few weeks, called us earlier today, just to check up on the new arrival. She's still trying to place the remaining brother and sisters, and knowing that Zoey was leukemia-negative was good news for them, since it's near-certain that if any had it, they'd all have it. LeeAnn also wants to keep in touch with her lil foster baby, and we'd love to have her and her family over to check in on the life she brought to us. If our 21 years at this are any sign, she will live long and prosper.

For most of the past paragraph, Ebony (our largest dog) has been sitting on the love seat, inches away from these not quite two pounds of sleeping fur on my chest, panting nothing but pure puppy love for her new baby sister. Not that she won't get into a full-blown chase with the cat sometime in the future, but for now, it's pure rapture.

Yay for a happy homecoming!

My daughter has been begging us to get a kitten (and a dog, and a hamster, and a bird...) for a while now. Don't go posting too many cute pictures, making me waver in my resolute no.

So you definitely don't want to hear that I'm coming to Massachusetts next Thursday, with plenty of room for a carrier, right?

They're all as cute as Zoey, aren't they?
