Late this afternoon, I was on hold with a collection agency that I'm calling into, to settle an account for a client/friend.

Their music on hold is the scherzo from Beethoven's Ninth, second movement.

You know, the one at the start of this- and every- KO segment:



I'm old enough to remember that whole riff from when it was the closing theme to the NBC Huntley-Brinkley Report.

My favorite use of the scherzo was in A Clockwork Orange, deranged but capticating.

I used to think of that, as a much younger person, as "the bedspring music", because I sort of imagined using bedsprings for the percussion. Though, if I had to refer to it formally, it'd be "Huntley/Brinkley music".
