Assuming there's a storm to ride out, anyway. The two worst ones we've experienced- here in 2006 and in Rochester in 1991- both caught the cities mostly unaware, and dozens of false alarms have come and gone between and after them.  Last track I heard put the worst of it a good 100 miles east of here, but there's still a decent chance of power disruption from winds, or basement flooding (which, with it, would bring loss of our heat and/or hot water).

My one concession to Sandy was buying a $3.00 bigass bag of ice, to tide over our garage freezer in case the power goes. There's a bunch of free-range chickens in there, and I told the Wegmans cashier that we'd be running our own Chiavettas barbecue before we'll let those birdies rot.  The oddest thing in the store? Milk, bread and eggs were in plentiful supply, but the big hoarder item appeared to be bottled water- weird, since cold tap water is the one thing that generally doesn't go out during a post-storm outage.

I have no fixed travel out of town for the coming week- I'd tentatively planned to meet up with Emily at Voldemort's early-Monday vet appointment if necessary to pay for it, but they said they can take the information over the phone, so I think I'll beg out of any other commitments there until I'm sure this storm is under control.

A Facebook friend of mine runs a local beer distribution company, and he posted a half-kidding line about Sandy is coming- stock up on beer! Since that line is a historical part of a longtime mayor's legacy, I commented by saying, Jimmy Griffin likes this.  Within minutes, this resulted in a reply comment from one Maureen Griffin Tomczak, also a friend of the guy's, saying,
So does his daughter.

It's no wonder this town is so susceptible to storms. It's so damned small;)  May Sandy be the same.
