The original of that can be heard by clicking this. Our version is closer to home, cheaper and healthier.

We've noticed over recent weeks, when Eleanor's been home longer at a stretch and cooking more involved stuff, that the animals are all fascinated with what she's doing. And not just for the obvious meat and seafood choices. After our stash of milkbones ran out a few weeks back, she discovered that the dogs are just as happy to chow down on whole, raw carrots. They're about the same size (if anything, a little bigger) and not that far off in consistency, and other than a little residue that gets left on the area rugs from where they chomp them to death, there don't seem to be any orangey ill effects anywhere.

Our office manager was in the building's kitchen today and I told her this story. Her own dog, also a lab mix, is allergic to dog food and has been eating apples and carrots as her snackies for years. It was also fun looking over the "get list" that Clare put up in the kitchen so people could write down when various kitchen supplies ran low.  It started with paper towels and teabags,  but quickly degenerated into humor ("salt substitute," followed by "old salt- not Ralph," the latter being our oldest and crankiest regular tenant) and wishful thinking ("porterhouse steaks," "Labatts Blue," both of which were enthusiastically crossed off without the items ever actually appearing in the fridge).

----

Not much other stuff to say that hasn't been said. Eleanor's already posted, on the recent days I didn't, about the latest twist in the tail tale of the COBRA, and about Emily's rather bizarre invitation to the prom.  I've been going relatively insane with additional work, much of it out of town, and will be absolutely wiped out after the first three days of next week, just in time to get our gorram taxes in.  So if you don't hear from me until next Friday (which, I might add, will be the fifth anniversary of this experiment in spontaneous literary combustion), don't worry. Much.

Wow...the dogs and Chelsea would be fighting over baby carrots at this house.
