I didn't know for certain until just now if Eleanor got to meet the Head Muckety-Muck owners of her company today (they were supposed to be in town, as she posted about yesterday), but I knew that at least one of them was there this afternoon- because I practically ran into her leaving the store myself.

Danny W., the capo di tutti Wegmi, wasn't there for the store tour, as it turned out, but his daughter, Capi Junior, certainly was. Younger than me- probably closer to Emily in age than to us, in fact- and dressed professionally yet straightforwardly in a black pantsuit with a "Colleen" nametag just like everyone else in the chain wears. I didn't introduce myself but gave her a big smile as I walked past.

Moments later, she headed for the back of the store and watched Eleanor doing her pineapple corer demonstration. She seemed interested and thanked her by name for her efforts.

One striking thing about the culture in this store of hers is that you never- EVER- see anybody slacking. Everybody's doing something- be it their own job, or pitching in, or helping out. Earlier, I'd gone to drop off Tasha's dog license renewal at Town Hall, and while they're not the stereotypical Mean DMV Employees™ in there by any means, they're clearly have their own agendas and don't put in nearly the same effort to make sure the customer isn't kept waiting.

I think we have a winning combination here.

After a long and relatively productive day yesterday, I treated myself to the book all my Baseball Blogger friends have been going ga-ga about: Titled Faith and Fear in Flushing after the author's eponymous long-standing Met blog, it covers its author Greg's 40-year journey into that fun but scary place bordering both heaven and hell which I've known myself for even a few years longer than that.

And there, on the final acknowledgment page of the book, is my name. Along with our friend Dennis's, those of several other bloggers I've gotten to meet in the three years of my own Met-blogging journey, and, well, you know, irrelevant people like his wife. (Sorry, Stephanie- I admire the conviction of your conversion to this, by far the stranger of the two religions into which Greg indoctrinated you.)

So I can now say I've been published. Sort of.

The final brush won't come until next week, but I learned of it today.

The bigass local liquor-store Not A Chain But We Play One On TV is hosting a tasting/signing appearance at its Williamsville location next Tuesday night, by none other then SNL/Blues Brother/Ghostbuster alum Dan Aykroyd. He's pimping his new brand of vodka, which I refuse to plug. Rather, my current plan is to head over there and see if I can get him to autograph a bass.

If he would autograph a bass, then Eleanor could demo the bass-o-matic, and given Eleanor's culinary talents, I might even eat what she made!

Congrats on the name-mention! I can say I knew you when....
