The Broadway Market is a local institution, making and selling all make and manner of traditional foods. Other cities have such things (Rochester's Public Market, for one), but here, it's particularly tied to the Polish community and does most of its annual business in the weeks leading up to Easter.

Traditionally, its ad campaign has featured cute lil bunnies (along with reminding the repressed suburban white people that they offer "secure covered public parking" in the long-ago mostly white-flighted East Side neighborhood), but this year, someone decided to think out of the box.  And, unless I'm mistaken, out of the mind.

This was plastered on bus shelters as I ran a million errands downtown yesterday, and was the back page ad on the usually very animal-rights-friendly alternative newsweekly:

Me? I think it's great. But I can just hear Ingrid Newkirk getting her pierogis in a wad over it and cranking up the PETA protest machine over it.

Unless, um, that was the whole idea in the first place, to get all kinds of free pub and more people showing up.....

Never mind.
