Eleanor went back to work today- given a no-standing duty station that they've been awesome about accommodating her at for the near future. Since the employee parking spaces are a ways from the building, I brought and retrieved her today, and through that effort got to watch both her and her fellow employees from a far more up-close-and-personal perspective than when I'm in there just shopping.

What a blessing has come from this separation from the Crazy People of her last job. As I dropped her off, one of her fellow inside co-workers was outside, shoveling snow around the customer pick-up door/employee entrance. It's Not Her Job, but in this company, everything is everybody's job. I'd met Joanne while I was doing one of the grocery runs a few days ago, and she just exuded the attitude of happiness and helpfulness that I know Eleanor's been recognized for already in her short time with the company. Seeing her outside in an orange jacket and shoveling slush, with a smile and appreciation for me bringing her co-worker in for the day, just reminded me what a good situation this is in the long run.

Five hours later, I watched Eleanor working from inside as her shift ended. Her laugh simply lights up the entire front end of the store, and unlike the last place, where people regularly extracted fully-formed diamonds from the tightness of their asses, everyone among her colleagues, including her managers, loves and appreciates her for who she is.

A contrast to that, yet no less amazing, was the hour or so I spent with my computer guru yesterday.

Vinny is a whirling dervish, who can handle eight different transactions at once while somehow managing to keep every one of the eight happy while he's looking out for them. He tolerates the weirder of the customers and then lets later ones know what he really thinks of them ("So-and-so who was in here earlier? Yeah, he's got summer teeth. You know, summer there and summer missing." For the quality and the price, he can say anything he wants about me after I've left.) He rarely lets paperwork, including green folding paper, stand in the way of doing what he does best, which is figuring out tech shit in a nanofraction of the time it takes me.  Once again, he came through for us, and if anyone within 100 miles of this bloggeradius ever has issues with their computer stuff, I would not hesitate to put you in his able hands.

So glad that E's company has been accommodating. It makes a world of difference when the work atmosphere is relaxed, and the people are nice. And the skies are not cloudy all day.
