Missed it by THAT much....
Dec. 9th, 2008 09:18 pmEleanor drew jury duty this week. The deal is, you call in the night before to see if they've reached your number in the pool.
Sunday night, no Monday appearance. They hauled in the first 500 or so of the jurors. She's #721.
Monday night, no Tuesday appearance. They summoned further jurors up to #720, one short of her straw.
Just now, we found out: no Wednesday appearance. Apparently, the first 720 people were enough to keep the justice system occupied for yet another day.
That leaves two more luck-of-the-draws to endure. Thursday would be inconvenient for me in terms of taking her and picking her up- it's now the only day I'm out of town this week- but otherwise would be great for her, since she's not scheduled to work that day. If she makes it to Friday without being picked, that ends her obligation for eight years. Would that I will be so lucky whenever they get around to me in the pool (lawyers are no longer automatically exempt, and I'd kinda enjoy the chance to see the process from the other side for once).
----
It also helps that Eleanor's been feeling better the past few days. Emily, not so much. She called from school mid-morning to announce that Mom's bug had apparently reached her, and it's unlikely she'll be going to school tomorrow, either.
I'm just crossing my fingers and holding my nose in hopes of not catching it myself at the end of this week.
----
Is it just me, or do Mr. & Mrs. Eliot Spitzer seem more and more like a reasonable couple of people with each passing relevation about this Illinois idiot and HIS scheming spouse?
It also doesn't help that Illinois Dude could easily place first in a Ron Weasley Lookalike Contest.
