After resisting the temptation for close to two weeks, I finally reinstalled AOL on Barry. It's not the Top Speed 9.0 version I last got a disk for, but something called 9.0 VR, and once I tweaked it with a few online updates, it works much. Better. And faster. Than the previous version which constantly had me blinking on and off peoples' buddy lists like a beer sign.

Also, I finally got round to experimenting with some cabling we have laying about and have learned how to connect Barry to the big-screen telly in the living room for things like missed Pushing Daisies eps (figures, now that they've canceled the bloody thing) and Hulu offerings. It does take some getting-used-to, not having a remote (as such) to pause and resume with.

A little labor-a-tory work later, we now have also learned how to stream a (so far) select number of Netflix films directly onto that set. It's by far the most annoying of the apps we've tried out- it won't work through Mozilla, which means using Evil Microsoft products to get it, and it seems to have serious issues with using the rewind slidebar- but our first effort on the new system has otherwise been great fun. It's called The Darwin Awards, and it's about what you'd expect a film with that title to be about. Joseph "He Whose Claim Must Not Be Paid" Fiennes plays an insurance company profiler, who specializes in spotting particularly bad characters in both the risk pool and the gene pool. Winona Ryder returns, seemingly from nowhere, as his initially reluctant sidekick. I'll be rebooting the beast and trying to resume from 38:00 in a few moments.

Ok, The Darwin Awards is on my MUST SEE list.

I'm not an AOL fan, but glad you got yours up and going.
