captainsblogI'm writing from my sister's house today. It was a long day of travel and court yesterday, winding not far from her digs, so I ended it at a fun neighborhood bar near her and, too tired to press on, crashed in her guest room until this morning, where I awoke to the sound of the television.
We rarely have the thing on at home, and never on Saturday mornings, so I wasn't quite up on the current offerings. I fully expected that all the pop-culture nightttime cable favorites would have Saturday morning cartoon versions. Somehow, Antiques Roadshow and reruns of Hardball weren't quite what I expected.
What WAS I expecting, you ask? I have a few modest examples here:
The Keith and Bill-O Hour!
Mortal enemies who spend their entire lives and episodes trying to annihilate each other, then punch out at the end of the hour and grab a cuppa in the commissary.
Keith: OBAMA SEASON!
O'Reilly: BUSH SEASON!
Keith: OBAMA SEASON!
O'Reilly: BUSH SEASON!
Keith: BUSH SEASON!
O'Reilly: OBAMA SEASON!

The Incredible Jolt!
Joe Scarborough, belted by gamma rays,
Turns into the Jolt, ain't he un-glamorays!
Your favorite Morning Joe gets bigger, greener and meaner at random spots during the episode. He chases evil villains like The Butt-Ugly I-Man and Greta Von Doom, saying little except his catch phrase- screaming FUCK YOU at the top of his lungs.

Pee-Wee-Brained Playhouse!
Sean Hannity, in an ill-fitting suit and bowtie, passes the time in his little dream world with occasional visits from the outside. Look, there's Rachel Maddow delivering the mail! Here's Lou Dobbs coming by to show old racist cartoons! And when he's not entertaining them, Sean will roll out his Big Tin Foil Ball of right-wing conspiracies!

I thought of trying to riff on Cramer and Mad Money, but for the most part that already IS a Saturday morning cartoon.

Date: 2008-11-22 04:53 pm (UTC)That was just too funny. Me, I'm completely unoriginal on Saturday mornings, I put on VH1 Classic. They do 80's video's on during the early morning...so, I sit and listen and watch, while reading whatever book I'm reading at the time.
