Google wasn't broke, so they went and fixed it anyway.
I like my Mozilla home page nice and simple. No gadgets, no news, no flashy thingies. Just the search box and the preview tab for my Gmail, which, until yesterday, had three simple components:
Inbox (#) Show preview Compose mail
(where # equals the number of new messages you have)*
So just now, I get back, and discover it's been replaced with a new, improved gadget which spills my entire inbox onto the home page. With some amount of effort, I get it down to just displaying the first preview item rather than 9 or 10 of them, but still. It's different. I hate different.
Then, I notice the little tab below it saying New! iGoogle survey
which brought up all manner of other dissatisifed customers who want simply the option to display 0 previews. Not 1 through 9. Zero through nine. I've taken computer science. This can be done!
Fortunately, several of the commenters point me to the UK version of the same gadget, which they ain't wrecked yet.
So my Mozilla home page is now
http://www.google.co.uk/ig
which looks exactly like the old one except for a little toggle between "search the web" and "search pages from the UK."
Why doesn't the US version offer such a choice, I wonder?
Now to just get them to stream HIGNIFY onto my home page so I'll know what
erinpuff is talking about;)

* I know, the Gmail notifier serves the same function, but it's inevitably slower than the homepage gadget and also more annoying. Most times, seeing the Inbox (1) thingie, I'll have retrieved the message before the envelope even turns blue.
