Since I generally try to honor requests here, I'm going to adopt a here-on-out "hands off" policy on the lives, sex and otherwise, of the candidates' families. There's really no need to go there, since these private matters only distract from the real issue, growing clearer every day, of just how scary this 44-year-old newcomer really is.

In my first go-round at parody, I worked in the things that had already come out. Palin's support of creationism, her being a card- (and Uzi-)carrying member of the Nuts Running America, and her own version of Troopergate, a subject that New York Republicans found very dear when it was our Democratic governor misusing his influence over our state police.

I almost threw in some other lines based on stereotypical portrayals of Republicans, but I didn't have anything to back them up.

Then, anyway.

Palin's a book-burner? Check.  Back in her experience-filled executive job in Wasilla, she ran as a reformer but turned quickly into a champion of Christian-right conservatism, according to her predecessor as mayor, John Stein:

Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

Palin's pastor is just as scary as Jeremiah Wright? Check. Months after McCain had to reject endorsements from nutjob southern pastors who preached anti-Catholic (and worse) venom, dodging the Wright bullet because, well shucks, he wasn't actually a MEMBER of their congregations? Along comes the northernmost nutjob pastor you're likely to meet:

The church runs a number of ministries providing help to poor neighborhoods, care for children in need, and general community services. But Pastor Kalnins has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war “contending for your faith;” and said that Jesus “operated from that position of war mode.”

Palin was baptized in that church and was a member for most of her adult life, according to the source cited there. At least these guys had the sense to take down the link to Pastor Kalnins' sermons, so she can't be demonized with them the way Obama was with Wright's diatribes.

Late last week, I dismissed this woman as being Dan Quayle in a dress. Now, she's frightening me as being (and perhaps having) more of a Dick than Cheney, and even more by the prospect of her being one mis-swallowed pretzel away from turning this country into Jesusland.

She's absolutely terrifying. I will try to respect her daughter's privacy as much as possible. I wish she would do the same.

But there's enough beyond that issue (and my questions about her parenting) to make my blood cold. As a student of library science (and former librarian) Doug is absolutely disgusted by this woman. In his words, "I won't take away your g.d. guns and you don't take away my books, deal?"

Oh, I can't let myself get started this early in the morning!

She's totally scary. And I thought John and Cindy McCain made my skin crawl...

My dad and his wife always send me Republican/anti-Democratic propaganda and I hate it. I'm half-tempted to send them your thoughts/facts (with permission of course) as retaliation.

Also... Hi. :) It's been a while, but I'm still reading when I can. ^__^
